We had a brilliant holiday in The Shippon, but this was made most special by the landscape of Wensleydale and Swaledale. Although we are in our late 70s, we did several long walks (5 miles x 3) and lots of other exploring as well - favourites - walking up the Swale in Muker meadows, driving over the moors to Swaledale and stopping at the top for a Read morepicnic lunch! We are not bird experts, but were thrilled with how many moorland birds we saw on those two drives over to Swaledale. We loved all the spring wild flowers too - so many primrose banks and the first openings of the bluebell woods. Other highlights - Aysgarth Falls, Asghill force, Castle Bolton, cheese demonstration in Hawes. Enjoyed dinner out at The Kings Arms, AAskrigg ad Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton. Hide

We love Askrigg and visit regularly to meet our friends who live here. Enjoyed staying in the Shippon which suited all our needs. Bolton Castle is well worth a visit and the lovely walks and views are worth the hard climbs.
