  • Beautifully designed property with environmentally conscious straw-bale construction
  • Slate-tiled floors downstairs with underfloor heating for warmth and comfort in chilly weather

Property code: OC-CHYKAL

Chy Kala literally translates to 'straw house' and this lovingly designed property has been constructed using the environmentally friendly straw-bale method. Impeccable attention to detail has been given to the design and build of this wonderful house, which is sympathetic to its beautiful countryside surroundings featuring handcrafted English Green Oak, Douglas Fir, Chestnut and Larch throughout.

Entering this home there is a central lobby, with a downstairs WC to the right. Off the hallway is the large well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room. Also off the hall is a light and spacious lounge/dining room with comfortable sofas, woodburner, TV and french doors leading out to the garden. The whole of the downstairs has slate tiled floors which benefits from under floor heating throughout.

A beautifully hand built light oak staircase leads you up to the first floor with a roomy landing, which features a balcony with views over the garden and countryside. Off the landing there is the master bedroom with double bed and an en-suite bathroom with bath and separate shower. The second and third bedrooms have twin beds and all three bedrooms have lovely countryside views. The family bathroom with large double shower and bath is also on this floor.

Outside there is a gated driveway and enclosed gardens with lawn and patio area with seating. There is also a wood store where you can help yourself to logs for the woodburner.

Chy Kala is located in the pretty little village of Newtown-in-St Martin, on the Lizard Peninsula, and is within walking distance of the Prince of Wales pub which serves excellent food. Chy Kala is the perfect base for exploring the rest of The Lizard peninsula area of Cornwall and the nearby town of Helston is a just a 15 minute drive away.

One of the best houses we have stayed at in Cornwall. Its an amazing set up with everything you could possibly want or need. The location is brilliant for exploring anywhere in the south of Cornwall, local beaches and parks are great for anyone with kids or otherwise. We will definitely stay here again in the future

This cottage is practically perfect. It was clean and comfortable with everything supplied that you could ever need and more, it was a real pleasure to return here at the end of a hot busy, sandy day. The space was really beautiful with a fabulous hideaway window seat for secret reading. Big showers, two baths, all very well thought out.
