This delightful cottage is tucked away in a quiet street yet is just a few minutes walk from the centre of Filey. The beach and wonderful promenade are also within walking distance.

Strathmore Cottage is surrounded by its garden, giving you plenty of outside space to relax in, including a patio courtyard and lawned areas, as well as off-street parking. The conservatory is light and spacious and provides a separate sitting room to the oak panelled lounge with its cosy stove. The kitchen diner has all the facilities you would expect in this well equipped property. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are a good size and the bathroom is modern with contemporary fittings.

Filey is a lovely seaside town with a fabulous beach of golden sand and a promenade that is popular with visitors all year round. The beautiful unspoiled Filey Bay extends for five miles and has something to offer everyone, from families to dog walkers, from nature lovers to adventurous thrill seekers. Filey is a very dog friendly town with many good walks, including large areas of Filey Bay, and several shops, cafes and pubs where dogs are welcome. Crescent Gardens are beautifully maintained with fantastic views of the bay and concerts are regularly held in the bandstand. For family fun, Glen Gardens provide crazy golf, trampolines and a boating lake. Other nearby attractions include Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park, Filey Museum and Filey Brigg and Country Park. For the more adventurous there is also the opportunity to take part in a variety of water sports and activities including coasteering, kayaking and dinghy sailing. (Bay Watersports) Keen birdwatchers will find plenty to see at nearby Bempton Cliffs RSPB centre including the only mainland gannetry in England and the largest kittiwake colony in mainland Britain. As Filey is the end point for both the Cleveland Way National Trail and the Yorkshire Wolds Way there are lots of fantastic walks from the town along the coast and into the rolling countryside and hidden valleys of the Wolds.

We were lucky enough to have the week before the heatwave as our holiday at the cottage. Therefore we only really used the cottage as a base to sleep in as we were out and about with our dog visiting and enjoying Filey's many walks, eateries and attractions. The cottage is perfectly placed as you are able to get to the shops, restaurants, bus terRead moreminal and train station in a few minutes. Our car basically sat on the drive for the week with only one car journey made in that time. Although it is surrounded by many houses there is a tranquility to the property. The garden at the time of our visit was at its best, so beautiful and a perfect nature haven. However we must agree with previous reviewers that there does need to be improvements made to this property. If not deep cleaned the carpet in the living room needs to be replaced. We could not open the patio doors either and there are small inexpensive improvements such as doormats that need to be replaced. It did not bother us that the front door could only be used as an emergency exit but we understand that this is an inconvenience for others. Please note that we have only now let the holiday company know of our observations so we did not give them the opportunity to put them right. However as we are going into the busy holiday season I would hope that the reviews going forward are more positive because these problems have been addressed. Hide

The positioning of the property is a short walk to town/beach, and with having children/dogs entering through the conservatory is a very good thing. If wet/muddy you have space to dry/get muddy or sandy stuff off without walking it into the house.

Do NOT bother going. This cottage is way past its best in certain areas, the front outside has peeling paint and the front door is virtually unusable, only in emergencies, and the trek to the back door, through the cottage with cases is therefore more difficult. We had a lovely October week in Strathmore Cottage - 2nd time weve been. The cottage itself is lovely - very comfortable and a nice garden for the dog to explore. Its only about 10 minutes walk to the sea front and there are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants as well as a big Tesco just over the road. Filey beach itself is great - we went whenRead more the dog restrictions were lifted, but it only appears to be a small part of the beach thats impacted anyway, so would make a good dog-friendly holiday resort throughout the year. Can recommend the Fado & Tide Irish bar and both C&Js and Inghams for fish and chips, although the Chinese we had from the New Kam San was a little disappointing. Hide

A lovely spacious house, well equipped, warm, comfortable and dog friendly too! Fully secure garden is great if you are taking your fur babies with you. Centrally positioned, close to bus & rail stations, shops and the seafront. Situated in a built up residential area, but surprisingly quiet . We would certainly go again.

I enjoyed a lovely few days in Filey. The accommodation is extremely well located to easily walk into Filey centre and to access the beach and Country Park walks. I parked up and walked everywhere with my dog. The property has everything needed for a stay and I was pleased the garden was very secure so I could let my dog have a good wander about.
