Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends. Just three miles away from this location is the magical Suffolk coastal village of Thorpeness. Thorpeness was created in the 1920s by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, an architect, barrister and playwright. Amenities in Thorpeness itself include the Dolphin Inn pub; The Kitchen Cafe; Thorpeness Hotel and Country Club with tennis courts; a superb 18-hole golf course, extensive sports field and the Meare - a large shallow boating lake with tearooms nearby. There are miles of mainly sandy beaches to explore, as well as a myriad of gorgeous footpaths through forests, fields and across the heath.  Walk to nearby Aldeburgh (20 mins) or Thorpeness (15 mins)

The house is in an excellent location with a wonderful garden. Fantastic wildlife in the garden, if you sit quietly, and lots of great walks out and around the house. The house is well-equipped, the showers work very well. Plenty of off-road parking as it has a huge front as well as a huge back garden. You do need to be careful as it is too large aRead more garden to make it completely dog-proof, our Spaniel found his way around the front more or less straight away, but all ok as it isn't near the road We had a great stay and hope to visit again in the future. Thank you very much Hide

This is an amazing property which we very much hope to revisit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and found that this house had everything we could possible need, a real home from home. The grounds surrounding the house, both back and front are beautiful and every window has a wonderful view. Although dogs are allowed at this property the extensRead moreive grounds are not totally secure and there is the possibility that dogs could easily find a way to escape, this may be worth noting if you have an adventurous pet. The location of this property is ideal being just a few minutes drive from the centre of Aldeburgh. There is also the bird reserve within a few minutes walking distance and this has lots of footpaths to explore. The peace and quiet to be found at this house was much appreciated at the time of our visit. Hide
