Cley-next-the-Sea is a charming, small coastal village with an international reputation for its nearby bird reserve and the salt marshes that run along this stretch of the coast. The marshes and reserve have been in the care of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust since 1926, making it the oldest wildlife reserve in the UK.  The village has a good pub, a brilliant delicatessen, a smokehouse, art gallery, pottery, magnificent 14th Century church and an iconic windmill that is a landmark for this part of the coast and where you can dine in the evenings.  Other lovely villages to explore along the coast are Blakeney and Morston, where you can catch a trip to see the seals, Wells-next-the-Sea with its wide, sandy beaches, pine wood walks and small gauge steam railway and take a day to visit the historic seat of the Earls of Leicester at Holkham with its deer park, great house and superb beach.  The lovely Georgian town of Holt is nearby and another good day out with its eclectic mix of independent shops, art and antique galleries, bars and cafes.

We had a lovely stay in Hollyhock Cottage and Cley village. The location is great, but we took a long time to find it, and I would suggest clearer directions, and pictorial reference from the cottage owners. (Note to future guests - instead of looking out for Whale Bone cottage as listed in the directions, which is not easily noticeable, look oRead moreut instead for Made in Cley pottery shop, in bright yellow, and very prominent. Whalebone cottage is 2 doors down), and the small pavement leads to the cottage.) Hide

Good central location, found it easy to park on Fairstead. Cottage was comfortable, some low ceiling areas - beware. Because of its location the living room was very dark and lacked natural light would be better suited for cosy autumn/winter evenings when you can shut the curtains, light the fire and cosy up. Outside space was disappointing, small Read morecourtyard with large table, very little sun and shared the area with the bins. However, we had an enjoyable break where we enjoyed many local walks. LOVED Hollyhock Cottage. Small, compact and super comfortable ... only metres to the main street and parking was easy on Post Office Lane. Would highly recommend.

We had a very enjoyable few days in a lovely cottage, accessed from one of the prettiest footpaths you could imagine. The cottage is small, but has everything you need and we enjoyed great walks around the village.

The cottage is in a really good location. It has a lot of nice features and is nicely done out. The owner is really friendly and helpful. It would be nice to have more outdoor space, but it is right in the middle of Cley.

Out of date photos on website and exaggerated descriptions. Well over priced for what it was. For that price there should be a far greater attention to detail on the owners part.
