Feel like aristocracy when staying in this delectable 19th-century property, a detached holiday home with sumptuous emperor bedrooms, private en-suite bathrooms and 1.5 acres of surrounding gardens. Located in the heart of Orford, you’ll only have to wander a short distance to access Orford’s 12th-century castle, any of the village’s enjoyable eateries or the banks of the beautiful River Alde (all within 0.5 miles). Discover the fantastic conservation spot of the Orford Ness National Nature Reserve (0.5 miles) and continue along the Suffolk Coast Path to appreciate far-reaching sea views from here. Along the coast, you’ll find Aldeburgh (12 miles), an ever-popular tourist destination with a delightful beach, plenty of local attractions and award-winning fish and chip shops that you simply have to try.

This former shooting lodge has been maintained with plenty of traditional style, complete with antique-style furnishings and elegant soft furnishings throughout. The ground floor is made up of a number of rooms for relaxing in, including a drawing room, a separate sitting room and a billiard room with a full-sized snooker table, lots of toys and games and a desk with a printer for anyone who needs to get some work done throughout their stay. The rooms have been equipped with sound systems and iPod docks to fill the ground floor with your favourite sounds whilst spending time here, along with a Smart TV and comfortable seating options in the sitting room. An open fire in the drawing room and a wood burner in the sitting room create a cosy atmosphere through the winter months. The kitchen is another magnificent space, equipped with everything you may need to feed your party. Quality appliances including a fridge/freezer with an ice maker and a Nespresso coffee machine will elevate the quality of your stay. Along with a breakfast table right here, you’ll also find a magnificent formal dining room for those celebratory meals together. As you head up to the first floor, you’ll find six remarkable bedrooms, each one with its own en-suite for added comfort and privacy. Four of the bedrooms contain luxurious Emperor beds, offering a quality night’s sleep. Two of these are also zip-and-link beds offering versatile Austrian twins (which do not pull apart) accommodation for those who request it. The final two bedrooms are made up as king-size rooms with antique sleigh beds. Each bedroom is equipped with storage solutions and additional furniture including dressing tables and cushy seating spots. Of the en-suites, four are equipped with walk-in rainfall showers, one offers a beautiful roll-top bath and the master en-suite boasts both a walk-in shower and roll-top bath. The master bedroom is also presented with an adjacent sitting room, complete with chaise longue, books and games and a TV.

The house was perfect for our family gathering. The croquet and other games were much appreciated. We were very lucky with the weather and found cooking and eating at The Great House a joy since we could eat either in the dining room or outside.

If ever a house had the correct name this was it. We had a great week away celebrating a 90th birthday. Orford is a lovely location with friendly pubs and shops (and Castle). Thank you for letting us stay in your home.

A fabulous house with extremely helpful owners. Although large in size, it is very comfortable and we all felt right at home. The garden was also lovely, and we were lucky enough with the weather to enjoy the range of games. Be aware it is only enclosed for dogs if people keep the 2 5-bar gates shut. The owners recommended Dan the Chef who cooked uRead mores a brilliant 3 course meal one evening. We also enjoyed a trip on the Lady Florence and a meal at The Jolly Sailor - both thoroughly recommended. Quite literally a "Great House" for 12 guests, and perfect location for exploring the wonderful Suffolk Coast area. Hide
