Originally a small port, the village of Hollesley (pronounced Hose-Lea) includes the hamlet of Shingle Street, where the River Alde finally meets the sea, emerging from the shingle spit of Orford Ness. Surrounded by great footpaths this area of Suffolk has some fantastic views over the countryside and the North Sea. Although Hollesley seems like a remote location it is only 8 miles from the busy market town of Woodbridge with its wealth of independent shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Also nearby is the charming village of Orford and a bit further up the coast are the popular traditional seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold. The county town of Ipswich is 16 miles away.
