Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Dorset countryside, this idyllic destination offers a perfect retreat for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty, whilst being within easy reach of good road links and amenities. Surrounded by rolling chalk hills, lush green meadows, and meandering streams, Higher Wraxall is a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The cottage is set beside a small country lane, which forms part of the national cycle route 26 and an abundance of footpaths, including the Wessex ridgeway trail and Macmillan Way, are moments away. This ancient hamlet itself exudes a timeless charm, with its quaint thatched cottages and ancient stone walls, or head to the nearby villages of Evershot, Cattistock and Maiden Newton (2 miles), where you can find your essential supplies. Within 17 miles are a whole host of popular attractions to choose from, including the county town of Dorchester, Abbotsbury, West Bay, Weymouth, Portland, Lyme Regis and Cerne Abbas.

Take the side entrance into this 16th Century thatched detached cottage, which leads into a spacious and welcoming dining room with plenty of room for leisurely meals together. From here step up into the fully equipped country-style kitchen or walk further into the property, where you'll pass a utility area and compact shower room. At the rear of the cottage is a beautiful and inviting lounge with a commanding view across the mature garden, an open fire for those cosy evenings in, and a Smart TV. Double doors open onto steps that will take you down onto the undulating lawn. Heading back to the dining room you'll find a winding staircase that rises to the first floor. A generous landing provides the perfect spot for work or study and you can find the three bedrooms, two doubles, and a single with an additional pull-out full-sized guest bed if required, and completing the first floor is the bathroom. Double doors lead from both the inner hallway and the lounge.

Head outside onto the large enclosed patio which can safely and comfortably contain small children and dogs. The patio has a table and chairs and fire up the electric BBQ for a lovely al fresco meal. An undulating and sloping lawn leads down through established borders to a small brook at the bottom. An arch in the hedge leads to a tranquil area of lawn that has been levelled and is the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic or ball game. Due to the natural surroundings it is not possible to enclose the lawn areas, therefore care should be taken with small children and dogs.

  • Sleeps 5+1 with additional pull-out full-size single bed available on request
  • 3 bedrooms - 2 doubles and 1 single (with additional single pull-out full-sized guest bed available on request)

Wonderful stay in Brock Cottage. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 3 dogs inside and outside. Well equipped and a fantastic shower in the main bathroom. Easily accessible for the coast and countryside walks. Well stocked village shop in Cattistock for any essentials and had a couple of excellent meals at the Acorn Inn in Evershot. My husband , myself and our two dogs had a marvellous time at Brock Cottage. Great idea to have a fenced off patio area as the terrier would have escaped in the garden. Central to lots of places. Beautiful area. Well appointed cottage and very comfortable. Lovely welcome pack which was appreciated.

Lovely cottage in a small, quiet hamlet. We used the patio area every day as the weather was so lovely during our stay. The beds were super comfy, and the seating in the lounge likewise. Garden isn't fully enclosed but there is a dog stake provided if you need it.

What a wonderful place which we shall book again. 3 adults and 3 dogs had a great week. The cottage is very well appointed with ample space inside and out. A welcome basket is a thoughtful touch by owners who care about their guests stay. While the garden is not fully secure, it is a village of 3 houses on a very quite lane and we had no problems kRead moreeeping an eye on our dogs. The fenced patio also allows for them to be outside but contained. A great stay and have already recommended to friends. Hide

We had the most wonderful week away in this beautiful cottage. It is the ideal location if you want to get away from it all but still have access to villages and larger towns. The cottage is gorgeous, spacious and very homely. It was also spotless and the garden and surrounding countryside great for our children to explore. We will return!

A very well presented and clean, comfortable cottage. We all had a wonderful time with great walks and runs from the cottage. The nature reserve was brilliant and also the cafe. We had lunch at The Sheaf of Arrows on New Years Day. The log fire was wonderful and food delicious. Thoroughly recommend this cottage for a relaxing break away.

We stayed at Brock Cottage over the Christmas holidays. We loved our stay. The welcome pack was very generous. The kitchen was well equipped and the oven was big enough to cook our turkey and all the trimmings. The dining area was of a good size and sat five of us comfortably. The same for the lounge. Would recommend Brock Cottage

A beautiful cottage in a tranquil location. It's one of the nicest cottages we've stayed in. Lovely size rooms furnished to give a real cottage feel. It felt so homely. The garden is big but quite sloped and although it didn't bother us in the least it might be an issue if small children want to play out. We wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Lovely cottage, clean and comfortable, with a lovely garden. It's in a quiet, friendly hamlet off the beaten tourist track but only 20 minutes' drive from Dorchester and slightly less from Crewkerne. We didn't meet the owners but they were very ready to allow us to arrive early and very generous with the "essentials" they left for us.
