The pretty market town of Cockermouth, where the rivers Cocker and Derwent converge, is 7 miles away and well worth a visit. Spend a happy afternoon browsing the independent shops and antique centres. The popular town of Keswick, on the shores of Derwent Water, is only 16 miles away. Here you can enjoy boating, a visit to the Theatre by the Lake, the Cumberland Pencil Museum and the Castlerigg Stone Circle which dates back to the Neolithic era. Round off your day with an evening meal at one of the many restaurants Keswick has to offer. The beautiful lakes of Buttermere, Loweswater and Ennerdale are all within 5 to 10 miles away. Wastwater with its spectacular views and access to Scafell Pike is a very scenic 40-minute drive over Cold Fell.

There are many original features throughout this characterful cottage which has been sympathetically renovated by the owners. The lovely old front door opens directly into a cosy sitting room with two comfortable sofas and a wood burner and Smart TV to help you relax after a busy day walking in the lakes. Stone mullion windows overlook the secluded grounds around the lodge where you can often see red squirrels, deer and a wide range of birds. There is a pretty twin bedroom off the sitting room with a stone feature fireplace and antique furniture. A doorway leads through into the country kitchen/diner which is well equipped with an electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer and microwave. Whilst enjoying your breakfast you can use the 3D map above the table to plan your day’s excursions. From the kitchen, there is a small hallway that takes you to a spacious master double bedroom with plenty of storage and direct access to the patio and garden. Across the hallway, there is a separate WC with a washbasin and next door there is a shower room which has an electric power shower, vanity unit and a heated mirror and towel rail.

There is a small private garden and patio  with BBQ and seating to the rear of the cottage and private off-road parking for one car at the front of the Lodge. You will find shops, restaurants and pubs within 4 miles of the lodge.

We had a lovely week at this cottage, it was so clean and everything you needed was there very well equipped. A lovely quiet location so peaceful but not too far away to have days out walks. It was a special touch to have some lovely biscuits left for us on our arrival too. I would certainly come back at some point for another holiday.

Nice quiet area, central for a lot of the local places of interest. Muncaster Castle with bird flying displays and Honister Slate mine are worth visiting. Another very interesting trip was to the Predator Experience, walking with wolves. Due to the country roads, best plan for one visit per day.
