The area around Buttermere Valley offers dramatic fells, tranquil woodland walks and comprises three beautiful lakes, so it’s easy to see why the region enjoys so many visitors. Walkers of all abilities will be catered for, whether it’s just a flat ramble around a lake or hill climb up a relentless fell. If the latter is what you are after, a visit to Grasmoor (0.5 miles), Haystacks (17 miles) and Mellbreak (4 miles) provide ample opportunity for hiking with the promise of spectacular views at the top. If you’ve misplaced your walking sticks, visit Buttermere village to load up on supplies and treat the group to a picnic on the shores of Crummock Water. The adventure capital of the Lake District, Keswick, is only 11.5 miles away where you can try ghyll scrambling, canyoning, kayaking, paddleboarding or Via Ferrata. When you’re ready to slow it down, visit Cockermouth (7.5 miles), the birthplace of William Wordsworth.

As soon as you enter this property, you feel completely welcome as the sofas in front of the fire encourage you to sit down and sink into an evening of relaxation with the TV, DVD and iPod dock at hand. Next is the sunroom, a bright space in which to soak up the outstanding views of the besieging countryside. Staying on the ground floor, the chef of the group will relish cooking with the AGA, as well as a separate electric oven with electric hobs. There’s also a microwave, toaster, dishwasher and breakfast bar here and next door in the utility area, you’ll find a washing machine and tumble dryer, a fridge/freezer and also a handy WC. Finishing the floor is the dining room which boasts room for all eight guests with its large, wooden farmhouse-style table. You’ll find all four bedrooms on the next floor up: a super-king-size room with en-suite shower room with shower and WC, storage, and a sofa for taking in the views through the dual aspect windows; a king-size room also with en-suite shower room with shower and WC, storage, bedroom furniture and more views; and two twins. The family bathroom resides on this floor and showcases a modern walk-in shower as well as a bath and WC. Sink through the bubbles and enjoy even more views of the surrounding fells.

Moving outdoors, there is an extensive garden that comprises a sizeable lawned area with picnic tables, as well as a raised patio by the sunroom, which is inhabited by a wooden bench, a perfect spot for your morning coffee. You’ll be able to store any bikes you brought with you in the carport opposite the cottage and there is parking space for up to four cars.

A very comfortable, well-equipped, spacious house, big enough for two generations or two 2 children families, close to Crummock Water. Good walking opportunities from the door - beautiful location. Large well-kept garden. A great place for a Lakeland holiday - even in terrible weather!

Fantastic! What a house and views to die for from the sun room. As most of the time was spent in this room admiring Melbreak, a few more easy chairs would not go amiss. Incidentally, a lovely touch - the child's work table in this room was appreciated. A warm, large and comfortable house. Storm Kathleen was in full force at the beginning of the weeRead morek, but we managed 4 Wainwrights and cycling locally and at Whinlatter.. We would love to return. Thank you for the Prosecco and chocolates. Hide

The house is situated in a stunning location with plenty of parking, lovely garden area and access to the fells from the front door. We felt it required updating, especially in the kitchen and bedroom areas. Lacking some simple but essential kitchen items (Oven Gloves, refuse bags general kitchen linen) Open fire definitely challenging! Wood burnerRead more would be an excellent upgrade. Overall, stunning location, Conservatory views fabulous, if you like rustic farmhouse style..its a tick Hide

A wonderful location for easy and less easy walks! The most incredible views in a spacious and sociable setting. So peaceful, very comfortable and much appreciated by a bunch of ex locals and their new families.

We had a lovely week with family aged 1 - 76. We were unusually lucky with the weather - warm and sunny all week. Plenty of space for everyone. Lovely views sitting in the garden or conservatory. Bonus to be able to walk to Crummock water.
