Placed between Cockermouth and Keswick, there are plenty of things to see and do here. Keswick, the Lake District's adventure capital, has a variety of outdoor activities on offer, both on the fells and on the lake. The town has a cinema, a great choice of eateries and the picturesque Theatre by the Lake. For exploration on foot, mighty Skiddaw, England's fourth highest peak, is 12 miles away, while Sale Fell is 7 miles away. Cyclists will find great off-road opportunities for mountain bikers and there is some fantastic road cycling on your doorstep. Watch Hill (4 miles) is great for walking and mountain biking, and the Lake District Wildlife Park is 4 miles away and offers a fun, family day out. The award-winning Lakes Distillery is only 3 miles away and, for a spot of indulgence, visit the spa at Armathwaite Hall, 5 miles away.

Sleeping six people in three bedrooms, this stunning home from home beautifully blends original features such as exposed beams, deep sandstone window seats, panelled doors and stone floors with stylish art and textiles creating an authentically charming interior that boasts all mod cons. Enter the house from a stone terrace and step into the stone-flagged hallway, and head through to the reception rooms. With two living rooms to choose from, teens and adults can enjoy some privacy when it is required. The snug has a charming window seat with a view to the fells, perfect for settling down with a book, with a comfortable sofa and two armchairs surrounding a wood burner ideal for cosy evenings in. The large living room has a huge open fire set into a deep fireplace and a comfortable sofa and two armchairs perfect for curling up for a movie night after a busy day. The dining room is a marvellous place to mull over your Lake District days, gathering together to enjoy sociable mealtimes. The bright, farmhouse kitchen has lovely garden and fell views and an Aga, a large built-in fridge, dishwasher and microwave with the wooden table ideal for a sociable cup of tea in the morning. A hallway leads to the back door where there's plenty of space for coats, and a WC and cloakroom. The utility room is in the outhouse and has a washing machine and drying facilities. Up the wide corner staircase to the first floor, you’ll find three spacious, characterful bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom has a king-size, four-poster bed, two elegant armchairs, two window seats overlooking the garden and an en-suite bathroom. The two twin rooms both have ample storage and enjoy lovely views of the garden and courtyard. The family bathroom has ornate tiles and a shower over the bath.

Outside in the grounds, there is a choice of places to explore that benefit from the sunshine at all times of the day. At the front, there is a tiered formal garden while at the rear and sides there are large lawns. The raised sandstone terrace has garden furniture and is perfect for dining alfresco with glorious views of the Caldbeck fells. A gate leads through to an enclosed copse that the kids will love to explore. The games room is located in the outbuilding and has a table tennis table, large indoor/outdoor beanbags.

House is lovely and steeped in history. Clean and well equipped kitchen. Loved the AGA but inside the oven needed a clean. Bed very comfy. Husband enjoyed reading some of the book. Fabulous characterful house that our family loved and weve stayed at three times. Lovely views, quiet, and around 20 minutes drive to Loweswater and Buttermere.

Ten out of ten. Amazing cottage. Second time here and wont be the last. We visit the lake district at least twice or 3 times a year with the family and this cottage is by far the best for us. A truly magical, wonderful home in a beautiful location. Everything about Hewthwaite Hall was perfect for my family. The property is delightful. As noted in a previous review, it is next to a working farm but it is barely noticeable and should not stop anyone selecting this property. The owners appear to have thought of everything!

A very unique home and even better than the photos. Very spacious with a well stocked kitchen and lots of character. The large enclosed garden was great for us and our dog, especially with the weather being so hot and sunny. We had a great couple of weeks.
