Local Norfolk Tips
When we moved to Norfolk nearly 15 years ago our first venture to the coast, as a family, was to the beautiful Holkham Beach, and Estate. We were blown away by the sheer expanse and isolation that the beach offered. Since then it has become our go to destination as a family all year around, and equally stunning on a cold crisp January morning as a warm Summers day. Whilst Holkham has become more and more popular it is still possible to wander the beautiful wooded trails without seeing a soul! We love to head through the wooded path across the golden sandy beach and to the water’s edge. I love the feel of the cooling North Sea lapping over my feet on a warm early summers day. After our early morning walk we head up Lady Anne Drive to the majestic Holkham Hall, and head to the Courtyard Café for a warming coffee and the obligatory slice of cake! Holkham Hall sits amongst beautiful Woodland and has a herd of nearly 400 deer which wander freely through the park throughout the year. A truly stunning place to while away the hours, forget about your worries and spend quality time with your family, friends both two and four legged! Holkham offers so much for the whole family. We love hiring bikes for a morning to explore the estate further and next on our list is to take out one of the boats on the lake in the grounds. With a brilliant woodland play area to entertain the kids there really is something for all the family. Fancy visiting Holkham yourself? Take a look at our Holkham cottages here
♥ Holkham remains my favourite place on our beautiful planet
No matter how far I travel and how many places I see, Holkham remains my favourite place on our beautiful planet. Everyone needs to walk out, through the pine woods and over the boardwalk, onto Holkham beach. Come rain or shine, summer or winter, the vast sands, shape-shifting dunes and sweeping skies always guarantee to calm a racing mind. Hunger can also be abated at Holkham’s The Victoria – an elegant, comforting and, oh so very, North Norfolk pub come restaurant. I highly recommend their 15-mile radius menu. If you have time, visit Holkham Hall too – a stately gem rich in art, grandeur and heritage. I dare you not to be impressed!

Norfolk has many fabulous beaches but one of my favourites has to be Cromer! I love walking along the promenade in the winter – the North Sea breeze certainly blows away the cobwebs! When it is warmer nothing beats crabbing off the pier – the whole family can get involved seeing who can catch the most or biggest crabs – it certainly brings out the competitive spirit amongst us! I can remember looking through the crab pools, when I was younger, trying to find different creatures – crabs, sea anemone, starfish and little fish and now I am a mum to two toddlers I love taking them down there and seeing what we can find. It brings back wonderful memories and also means I am creating more with my special babies! Cromer is blessed with wide sandy beaches which are perfect for family days at the beach – building sand castles, swimming in the sea and finding different types of shells. Cromer is perfect for fish and chips on the seafront but I also love eating at The Rocket House Café near the lifeboat museum. Nothing beats sitting in their restaurant with spectacular views over the beach and the pier – the hog roast bap is my favourite thing to order but they have so many fabulous dishes, most with locally sourced ingredients, to choose from. Nothing beats sitting there after a walk on the beach being able to watch the fishing boats come in – paradise! Intrigued to discover our cottages in Cromer? Just click here
