Cottages in Battle

Battle, made famous by the 1066 Battle of Hastings which took place there (not in Hastings), is the best of the Sussex countryside. Approximately five miles from Hastings, Battle has a distinctly more rural feel, although you will only ever be a stone's-throw away from the sea. Our Battle Holiday Cottages celebrate the area’s natural landscape and are all larger properties, sleeping between 6 and 8 guests, making them ideal for a family holiday. We also have dog-friendly, luxury accommodation and some of our most unusual and exclusive cottages in Battle, so you definitely don’t want to ignore this quiet corner of Sussex.

Whilst you’re not relaxing in one of these delightful cottages, you may want to venture out and discover Battle’s local attractions. Our local team recommended a walk up Senlac Hill, the location from which Harold Godwinson is said to have deployed his troops in 1066. The hill no longer has an active military role, nor is it at the forefront of historic drama, but it does have some amazing views! Battle is also home to a range of antique and second-hand stores, rich with treasures and trinkets for you to discover. Barnaby’s of Battle is a popular antique store and The Old Saddlery is an independent bookshop that specialises in second-hand books. If you’re a bookworm, Battle’s other independent bookshop Rother Books is also well worth a visit.

Fancy a break from self-catering? Take a trip to Bluebell’s Tearoom for a spot of afternoon tea, or jaunt down to the Wild Mushroom in the evening, a restaurant that specialises in serving seasonal Modern English meals with foraged and fished ingredients. Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea also have bustling high streets with lots of tasty eateries to choose from and you can read more about our holiday cottages in the area here.
