Northumberland Coastal Cottages

Northumberland’s 30 miles of golden sandy beaches encapsulates the rugged beauty and upbeat atmosphere of a truly-British seaside destination.

Seahouses is one of the regions best holiday spots. A bustling fishing village along the northeast shoreline, it’s the perfect location for a family get-together by the ocean. A treasure-trove of independent shops makes it the go-to place for local souvenirs, while cosy pubs serve hearty meals and cold drinks along the seafront. Build castles in the sand, search through rock pools, or gallop along the water’s edge on horseback – there’s plenty to see and do for adults and children alike.

Feeling active? The harbour town of Beadnell sits along the beaches of the watersport hotspot of Beadnell Bay. The sheltered blue cove has become a dream destination for sea-lovers, offering you the chance to surf, kitesurf, windsurf, sail, scuba dive and more.

If you prefer to enjoy nature from dry land, Northumberland has you covered. Safeguarding its vast dunelands, endless beaches, and thriving islands, most of the region's coastline is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From Farne Island Puffins to Lindisfarne wildfowl, the shores of Northumberland are overflowing with wildlife.

Head to England's most northerly town, Berwick-upon-Tweed, and experience the best of both nature and man-made beauty. Take gentle riverside walks as swans glide beside you, and uncover Britain's first purpose-built army barracks, with its perfectly preserved bastions, buttresses, and even a Russian cannon.

With more castles than any other county, you won’t have to travel far to find one of Northumberland's dramatic, awe-inspiring constructs overlooking its shores. Speckled along the coast, you’ll discover historical fortifications commanding cliff lines and shadowing pretty villages, including the towns of Warkworth, Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne.
