Cottages in Sheringham

Situated east of Burnham Market and near to Cromer on the north Norfolk coast, Sheringham is a small Norfolk seaside town of great character and charm.

Smaller than its neighbours, it is possible to overlook Sheringham, originally a Norfolk fishing village but expanded when the railways arrived in 1887. Sheringham is a small friendly town, full of independent shops and is a rare example of a seaside town that has changed little over the years, resisting commercial and residential development.

The railway is an important feature in Sheringham as the town marks the end of the route for the famous Poppy line – the North Norfolk Railway (NNR) which runs steam services during the busy months.

The journey from Sheringham through Weyborne to Holt is a beautiful way to see the North Norfolk coast as the track traces the coastline around, and the NNR run many events during the summer months which are always popular and well supported.  The main line from Norwich also finishes in the town and so a short train ride can take you into the city on the Bittern line which boasts beautiful views, a chance to really savour this unspoilt part of Norfolk.

Surprisingly for such a small town, Sheringham has its own theatre called Sheringham Little Theatre, well supported and popular, a reflection of the thriving arts scene and of how active and vibrant this town community really is. There is a friendly leisure centre called Splash, an ideal choice for those grey days when Sheringham’s sandy beach does not beckon, this has a swimming pool and wave machine.

No trip to Sheringham would be complete without a visit to Sheringham Park, a National Trust landscaped park and gardens surrounding Sheringham Hall with far reaching views over the sea, an opportunity to venture inland and explore some of the beautiful North Norfolk countryside.
