Cottages in Holt

Holt is nothing if not smart, glorious and genteel. It is THE go to destination for any discerning visitor to the North Norfolk Coast and indeed, Norfolk.

Famously and fabulously handsome, this market town is a pretty myriad of Georgian buildings, alleyways and courtyards, all housing independent shops, antique centres, eateries, galleries and coffee shops. Attracting artists, photographers, walkers, literary types and day trippers alike, it is a town for all seasons and all interests. The Christmas Lights Switch On and Summer Holt Festival are just some of the popular events that take place here, with guests such as John Hurt and Stephen Fry being an annual affair, and firm mainstays on any local or visitor calendar.

Considered the starting point to North Norfolk’s ‘golden triangle’, taking you onto the equally pretty Georgian towns and villages of Wells-next-the-sea, Cley, Holkham and Burnham Market, which all offer red brick elegance, seaside air, swathes of fields and miles of sandy beach. It’s the perfect base to discover this protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and if that isn’t enough, Holt is backed by Holt Country Park; 100 acres of woodland, picnic areas, nature trails and an adventure playground. There is something for everyone in this little town, with bustling activity all year round where you can idle hours away, whatever the weather.

So make like a Royal, take in a slice of Holt’s charm, dip your toes in the nearby sea, help yourself to a portion of  that ‘North Norfolk’ vibe (you’ll know it when you see it) and book a cottage in Holt. Who knows, you may even bump into the Duchess of Cambridge.
