Description

North Highfield truly is one of the best-positioned houses in the Lake District. With fantastic vistas of the fells and Lake Windermere, this former Victorian gentleman's house has been beautifully cared for and maintained by the owners, who use the property as a home from home. They have furnished and equipped the house top to bottom with the highest quality fittings and equipment. Located only a short walk away from both Windermere and Bowness, it's ideally located for you to explore the national park; that is, if you ever want to leave the house with its delightful gardens with various seating areas, all giving a panoramic view of the mountains beyond. North Highfield also has its own private jetty only a short walk from the garden, here you can play and relax on the pebble beach or picnic on the table and chairs provided.

As soon as you walk into the house, you know you are in a special place. Downstairs, there is a large sitting room with comfortable seating centered around the open fire, two beautiful chandeliers hang majestically and a piano nestles in one corner, perhaps tempting you and your guest to some musical entertainment. The vast windows overlook the gardens and you will find it hard to avert your gaze from the scenery that surrounds you. From the sitting room, you enter the grand dining room with its splendid table with plenty of room for your entire party. After your meal, the table converts into a snooker table with a slate bed. There are not one but two kitchens, the first kitchen has a large range cooker and abundance of space to prepare your meals, the second a slightly smaller breakfast kitchen with dining table; both kitchens are fully equipped with all you could possibly need for your stay.

You can climb one of the two staircases to the first floor, where again you will notice just how well the house has been cared for with elegant pieces of furniture and mirrors wherever you turn. On this floor, there are four bedrooms, two king size and two double bedrooms (three of which have an ensuite shower room, the other has a bathroom adjacent). Each bedroom has been individually styled with period furniture and furnishings. The family bathroom has a full-size bath and separate shower, a quiet haven to soak the muscles after a day of exploring. The final room on the first floor is a delightful library and lounge area, again with those all-encompassing views of the Lake and Fells.

On the second floor, there are an additional two bedrooms, both can be either twin rooms or super king size. They are spacious and again decorated to a high standard; these two rooms share a shower room between them.

Outside, the owners have produced and themselves maintain a fantastic garden, with mature plants and shrubs all around. There are two climbing frames for the younger of heart, various patio areas and a summer house provide great spots to relax and unwind with a glass of your favourite tipple. Then, of course, there is the path leading to your very own jetty on Lake Windermere. You will find it hard to find a more idyllic spot in the whole of the Lake District.

You will not be disappointed with any aspect of this magnificent house, a place to make memories that will last forever.

Mr M,

North Highfield is a wonderful property with a fabulous garden and private lake frontage a 10 minute walk away. It is clean, very well equipped and extremely comfortable for all age groups. My little grandson absolutely loved the whole place! We have booked again for next year and I would highly recommend it.
