Holiday Cottages in Devon

A spectacular coastline that is only matched in beauty by the splendour of the countryside awaits you in Devon, a perfect place for anyone who loves the great outdoors.

Devon is the UK’s playground, the rugged landscape and spectacular coastlines, both North and South, give you the chance to indulge in all sorts of adventures. Come and get the adrenalin flowing with some surfing off the coast at Croyde and Saunton, kiteboarding and land-yachting near Bideford and Barnstaple, walking many miles of footpaths and tracks at Dartmoor or coasteering around the rocks and cliffs of Exmoor’s coastal edge. The rest of this beautiful National Park is perfect for all sorts of outdoor pursuits, from climbing and cycling to horse riding and geocaching.

Of course, everything that makes Devon a place for adrenalin enthusiasts can also be enjoyed at a more serene pace, and you can’t fail to be moved by the breathtaking vistas that seem to greet you around every corner. Walkers can explore Exmoor or the coastline and when it’s time for something to eat there are plenty of award winning restaurants and pubs to choose from.

Not forgetting the South West Coast Path that snakes its way around the county along the north coastline before disappearing into Cornwall and then returning in South Devon, connecting the stunning estuaries at Salcombe, Dartmouth and many more picturesque places along the way. The path takes in a host of popular coastal towns and villages, which will leave you pining for a return to Devon the moment you leave.

Below the coast path lie many of Devon’s award winning beaches that earn national recognition year upon year. In North Devon, the golden sands of Woolacombe have previously scooped the award for ‘Britain’s Best Beach’, while the quieter option of Westward Ho! boasts the Blue Flag Beach Award. Hidden gems include Heddon’s Mouth, and Woody Bay. In South Devon, the distinctive shingle beach from Start Bay to the quiet village of Strete, separating the sea from Slapton Ley, is a popular beach with plenty of bathing space. Otherwise, for the more adventurous, numerous coves and hideaways can be found amongst the rugged cliffs.

Slightly further inland the Tarka Trail is a series of footpaths and cyclepaths which wind in a figure of eight formation centreing around the town of Barnstaple, perfect for a leisurely day out.

In short, Devon is the perfect self-catering destination.
