In North Devon, the golden sands of Woolacombe the award for ‘Britain’s Best Beach’, while the quieter option of Westward Ho! Blue Flag Beach Award. Hidden gems include and Woody Bay. In South Devon, the distinctive shingle beach from Start Bay to the quiet village of Strete, separating the sea from Slapton Ley, is a popular beach with plenty of bathing space. Otherwise, for the more adventurous, numerous coves and hideaways can be found amongst the rugged cliffs.

Slightly further inland the Tarka Trail is a series of footpaths and which wind in a figure of eight formation centreing around the town of Barnstaple, perfect for a leisurely day out.
