In South Devon, the distinctive shingle beach from Start Bay to the quiet village of Strete, separating the sea from Slapton Ley, is a popular beach with plenty of bathing space. Otherwise, for the more adventurous, numerous coves and hideaways can be found amongst the rugged cliffs.

Slightly further inland the Tarka Trail is a series of footpaths and which wind in a figure of eight formation centreing around the town of Barnstaple, perfect for a leisurely day out.
