Towns and Villages in Derbyshire

Nothing says English countryside holidays like cute towns and villages, of which Derbyshire is abundant. As you browse our cottages in Derbyshire and the Peak District, you’ll notice that our properties are dotted across the region’s picturesque towns, villages and hamlets - so many you’ll be spoilt for choice! But here we thought we would highlight five of Derbyshire’s most inviting, individual and interesting towns and villages that you should visit during your time in this peaceful county.

View over Edensor village

Edensor

Fans of Pride and Prejudice may recognise this little village name as it's right next to Chatsworth House, Mr Darcy’s home in the famous 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. Although Chatsworth is most definitely worth a visit (whether you like the film or not), nearby Edensor is equally lovely. The sixth Duke of Devonshire was responsible for rebuilding Edensor in the nineteenth century and the village is home to a range of architectural designs and interesting buildings. There is also the reputable Edensor Tea Rooms here, which is well worth a visit for a cup of tea and a sweet treat!

View over Baslow village

Baslow

Not far from Edensor and Chatsworth lies Baslow, another picture-perfect village in the Derbyshire Dales. With cosy pubs, local shops, great walking paths and friendly faces, Baslow is a great place for a day out - particularly in the sunshine. If you wish to enjoy an extended stay in this pretty village, take a look at our small selection of cottages in Baslow.

Two Dales

Just north of Matlock is the hamlet of Two Dales, a small village with a fascinating history. Although many presume that the name Two Dales comes from the fact that the hamlet is situated between two dales (Hall Dale and Sydnope Dale - both excellent for a walk), it is actually a derivative of the village’s original name, Toadhole. Despite its small size, there’s plenty to do in Two Dales and it is in a great location for exploring the South Peak District - why not check out our cottages here too?

Tideswell Cathedral

Tideswell

Tideswell is ideal for those looking for a slower pace of life. Further west than Buxton, Tideswell is in the ideal location for those wanting to explore parts of the River Wye and attractions like the Ladybower reservoir. Tideswell is also home to the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’, of St John the Baptist, which is not actually a cathedral. However, due to its grandeur and status as a Grade II listed building, St John’s is nationally recognised as one of England’s most beautiful churches. If Tideswell’s splendour and tranquility sound appealing to you, then take a look at our equally lovely holiday homes in the area.

Belper highstreet

Belper

Slightly busier than our other recommended towns and villages, Belper has a bustling centre that makes it perfect for those looking for a break with plenty of shopping, eating, drinking and entertainment. Belper lies in the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills heritage site and played a significant role in the industrial revolution. Nowadays, Belper’s high street is its crown jewel, helping the town to win High Street of the Year in 2019. Our cottages in Belper range from very close to the town centre, to a bit further out, so you can happily choose how involved you want to be in this vibrant town.
