A number of our Chapel Stile cottages are also dog-friendly, and many have been awarded luxury grading due to their unique design and interiors, and special facilities. Other popular Lakeland destinations, such as Ambleside and Windermere, are also close by and easy to explore during your Chapel Stile stay.

Things to do in Chapel Stile

Chapel Stile is in an ideal position at the foot of Great Langdale for visitors to take advantage of the spectacular views and access the many walks and climbing routes available on the doorstep. England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike, can be climbed from the top of the valley if you feel like a challenge, or try the Langdale cycle trail. Don’t worry if a major leg-shredder is not for you as there are plenty of walks for all abilities and energy levels, all with amazing views.

As well as the many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, Chapel Stile has an interesting history with many of the cottages built in the 19th Century to house quarrymen being made from the green-coloured slate that was mined in the area. The village church has a tradition of ‘tying in’ the gates during a marriage service and only releasing its newlyweds when they throw coins to the local children. The village is also close to the well-known attractions at Ambleside and Windermere so there is plenty to do if you fancy some shopping, a visit to a historic house or a boat ride on the lake.

Although our cottages have well equipped kitchens for self-catering, there are plenty of choices to eat out around the village. Wainwright’s Inn offers local ales and a hearty menu. The New and Old Dungeon Ghyll pubs extend a welcome for hungry fell walkers and the National Trust’s only pub, Sticklebarn, can be found a couple of miles away in the middle of the Langdale Pikes. The Three Shires Inn, so called as it borders the old county shires of Cumberland, Westmoreland and Lancashire, is also less than 3 miles away.

If you are looking at holiday cottages in the Lake District for your next break, Chapel Stile will offer you that quintessential outdoor experience and variety to keep the whole family happy.
