Another favourite walking spot in the area is Serpentine Woods, which were originally grazing land and part of Kendal Fell and overlook Kendal and the castle. There are several paths that can be taken through the woods, with walks totaling around 3 miles in all. The woods have a nature trail with ten stops, each demonstrating a different environment within the woods. Deep into the woods is a quaint summer house, built in 1833, when the woods were only open to those who could afford an admission fee to pay towards the upkeep.
