Description

Ruth’s is a converted detached coach house which lies in the centre of Charminster, a village steeped in history and at the centre of a Conservation Area. This perfect family cottage, which is cosy in the winter and airy in the summer, is just 2 miles from the county town of Dorchester, and 6 miles from Cerne Abbas, home of the iconic Cerne Abbas giant.

Guests can expect to be warmly welcomed upon arrival with fresh flowers to greet you, and delicious home baked treats such as cake and biscuits to tempt your taste buds. Sit back with a nice cuppa, relax and enjoy the start of your holiday.

This delightful property has several interesting features, such as the lovely double wooden entrance doors with high, pitched ceilings upstairs. Downstairs the spacious cottage kitchen/dining room has a really welcoming feel and is perfect for a family get together. The entrance hall leads to the cosy living room, with patio doors leading to an enclosed and sheltered courtyard. The family bathroom and small utility room also lead from the entrance hall. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a small cloakroom with sliding door. To the front of the cottage, a gravel drive leads to a private parking area for one car.

Just around the corner you’ll find the River Cerne, a safe and nearby source of fun for families, great for paddling and picnics. St Mary’s Church is also close by, a picturesque village church with Saxon origins.

There are two pubs and a Post Office/shop within walking distance of Ruth’s and Charminster, surrounded by beautiful countryside, is crisscrossed with footpaths leading the walker to short or long walks - ideal for dog walkers and hikers alike. As well as a patio to enjoy sitting outside , there is a grass area available at the side of the property for your pets (not enclosed ).

Weymouth’s award winning, family friendly beach is not far and the Jurassic coast, which has World Heritage status, offers fabulous walks and fossil hunting opportunities, pretty villages, rolling countryside and gastronomic excellence.  There are also several historic houses and gardens in the area: Wolfeton House and Minterne Gardens are close by.

Reviews

Ruth's Cottage has a lovely location in the charming village of Charminster, next to the river and the church, and adjacent to the beautiful garden of the owners' residence. It's possible to walk to Dorchester along a pleasant footpath. The cottage is also charming, comfortable and very nicely decorated with a patio area to sit out in and enjoy the view of the garden and the peaceful environment. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We stayed for a week and were sorry to leave.

Ms K,

The cottage was lovely. Spotless , everything we needed and a lovely cake and milk so we could have a drink and something to eat when we arrived. The owners were very welcoming and the outside was as well kept as the interior.

Mrs Glynis C,

Lovely cottage in a lovely village.

Mr Alan S,

Thank you so much for making us feel very welcome with cake, biscuits, oranges, flowers etc. The small things make all the difference. Basil has slept better than he does at home!! possibly due to having so much space to whizz around in. He took his first couple of faultering, unassisted steps between us in the living room. A lovely base to visit family from. Thank you again.

Past Customer,

Lovely relaxing few days away staying in this beautiful cottage which provided such a comfortable home from home to explore the local area. So much to see and do that we will definitely be back ! My 19 month old daughter really enjoyed Sea Life at Weymouth and Abbotsbury Swannery. The gardens there are beautiful and well worth a visit. Thank you Richard and Jenny for providing such a gorgeous place to stay and all the thoughtful extras. We certainly hope to come back to Ruth's again.

Past Customer,

Thank you for for a perfect location !! And the lovely apple cake.

Past Customer,

We have thoroughly enjoyed out few days here. So comfortable and welcoming and a perfect base for visiting family. Thank you so much for the cake, wine and extra touches which have been so appreciated. A fantastic spot for visiting all that Dorset has to offer. We hope to return someday.

Past Customer,

A perfect cottage for exploring the delights of this beautiful county. Its lovely to get away for a peaceful few days and you don't need to come too far to do it. Thank you for the lovely touches, cake biscuits and wine - what's not to like and a bowl of water and towel for muddy paws.

Past Customer,

Ruth's is a fantastic base for a Dorset holiday. The cottage is so comfortable and well equipped, a real home from home. The hosts are very welcoming, and there is so much to explore in the local area. We had a wonderful stay here would definitely return again.
