Description

Top Step Cottage is a pretty fisherman's cottage, part of a small unique terrace of similar cottages situated on West Lane steps just off the Aldeburgh High Street. Small but perfectly formed, this cosy cottage offers comfortable accommodation for couples or a small family. Inside the entrance door you are welcomed into a homely sitting room with an air of nautical colour and charm. To the rear of this Aldeburgh cottage is a small kitchen with dining area, with the kitchen having all essential self-catering appliances including a dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom which has a bath and overbath shower is also located on the ground floor with a separate cloakroom. On the first floor are two bedrooms – one with a double bed and plenty of clothes storage and one bedroom has a single bed. This cottage also has the added benefit of a small sunny courtyard to the rear which is a great little spot for a bit of peace and quiet in the summertime. Top Step Cottage is ideally positioned in the heart of Aldeburgh and handy for visiting the lovely boutiques and restaurants within the centre of the town. Shop: 200 yards Pub: 500 yards.

Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends.

Reviews

What a beautiful cosy cottage, just a stone's throw from the shops and beach. The cottage is situated up steps from the high street which is a public walkway. We thought it might have been fairly noisy but was the complete opposite, quiet and very relaxing, and we slept like logs after a lovely day out in the winter sunshine. The welcome treats were also a lovely surprise and addition of milk, teabags, coffee and sugar enabled us to switch the kettle on before unpacking, always a must after a car journey! The kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms are well equipped with everything you need and the owners were easy to contact prior to our visit, and extremely attentive, answering any questions we had, making our stay very enjoyable. I absolutely love Aldeburgh and will definitely be coming back very soon.

This was our second visit to Top Step Cottage. It is perfectly placed for easy access to the High Street, but in a quiet position with only the occasional passer-by on the steps at the front. This property is perfectly located just off the High Street yet away from the many people who visit Aldeburgh. The house is very well appointed and perfect for three people, as in our stay.
