Description

Situated in the Dee Valley between Chester and Oswestry, and within a short drive of Chirk and Llangollen, The Old Farmhouse sits on the owners’ working farm (sheep and cattle) in a peaceful, rural location at the end of a no through lane, with walking from the door and a varied range of places to visit nearby. The village of Ruabon, 3 miles, provides pubs, shops and other facilities, and there are also some stunning riverside pub restaurants, The Boat and The Cross Foxes, in Overton (3-4 miles).

Beautifully renovated and furnished to a high standard, The Old Farmhouse provides spacious accommodation for a family or friends. This imposing red brick house has parking to the rear, with a small patio and lawned garden to the front, orchard and open countryside beyond. Entrance from the back of the house leads into a good sized utility room with washing machine and fridge/freezer, and adjacent well-fitted kitchen with electric range cooker, microwave and extensive worktop and storage space. Also leading off from the utility room is a ground floor cloakroom/WC. The kitchen leads through into a comfortable dining room with table and chairs, two armchairs and a woodburning stove in the fireplace. The hallway provides front door access to the patio and garden, and leads through to the sitting room with both contemporary and traditional home comforts - a flatscreen Smart TV and an open fire. From the hallway, the original wooden staircase leads up to the first floor, with two spacious bedrooms – a king size and a twin, a large family bathroom with shower over the bath, and a snug/playroom which is also ideal for use as a nursery. The house includes some exposed beams, varnished wooden floorboards, stone and quarry tiled floors. Please note that there are also several changes of level and steps within the property, so it is not particularly suitable for the less able.

The Old Farmhouse is an ideal base for exploring the many attractions of the Dee Valley and the northern Welsh borderlands. The Roman and medieval city of Chester is 20 miles to the north and Oswestry, with its Iron Age Hillfort, 12 miles to the south. Two stunning National Trust properties can be visited: Erddig, 5 miles or Chirk Castle, 8 miles away. Llangollen, 9 miles west, is home to the Llangollen Steam Railway, with regular visits by Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, as well as horse drawn boat trips on the Llangollen Canal. A visit to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct with World Heritage status, 5.5 miles away, is a must - whether on foot or by boat, as it towers over the Dee Valley, carrying the canal from Llangollen to Trefor. And no trip to this picturesque area would be complete without a walk along a section of Offa’s Dyke.

The farmhouse was a lovely, cosy yet spacious house to stay in. It was so peaceful with good views over the surrounding fields. The property was fabulous for children, with plenty of space to run and explore in a safe environment.
