Description

A contemporary first-floor apartment within the Whitehall Landing complex on the banks of the River Esk, around 0.5 miles from the town centre. Featuring a spacious lounge/kitchen/diner, two bedrooms and enviable access to Whitby’s historic, cultural and maritime attractions, it is perfect for families or small groups keen to explore the North Yorkshire Coast and North York Moors National Park.

This deceptively large apartment overlooks the River Esk and Whitby’s characterful marina, thus enjoying a unique perspective of the town even seasoned visitors often miss. After ascending a lift and stairs into the communal hallway, the apartment opens with a beautifully-presented lounge/kitchen/diner, a bright and airy space with a range of comfortable soft furnishings and practical gadgetry, with river views best enjoyed via its Juliet balcony. You can even catch a glimpse of the steam trains as they venture in and out of the station. There is ample storage with the king-size and the twin bedrooms nearby, both of which are served by a good-size bathroom. While there is no outside space at the apartment, its easy access to Whitby town centre via Church Street is a more than adequate substitute.

Reviews

Great views of the river and wildlife, seals herons and egrets. The owner sorted out a kitchen problem quickly and simply. A lovely place to stay

Mr T,

The property was in a excellent location, let down by an early leave time of 9am and also expected to strip bed and put in a laundry bag. The property did want a little tlc ie! Missing handles loose handles and a dirty cooker and greasy cooker hood frame. Also the mattress on the double bed was rock hard, came away with bad neck and back pain. It's a pity because the flat location layout etc was spot on.

Mr Robert L,

Modern, well equipped flat in quiet location with private parking space.

Mr Tony D,

It would have really helped to have the relevant key safe identified in pre arrival instructions. Twenty minutes in a bin store is not a great start to a holiday. Nine am departure time is also too early!

Mrs Wendy B,

Very please with the property however the booking information provided did not contain accurate details of which key code box to access and I could not get a response from the owner. This seems to be a recurring issue having read the visitors book. Owner did not respond to my calls either.

Mrs Jane S,

We could not find fault with the apartment at all We will be returning

Mrs Denise H,

Good value for money and very clean. Close to town and parking. Good views

Mrs Karen S,

The Great Eskcape is a lovely apartment, very clean and with very pretty views over the river. However, a few things didn't go to plan. 1. We booked this apartment because of the 10am checkout, when we received the arrival instructions the time had changed to 9am, very unfair to change the time after taking our money! We wouldn’t have booked the apartment had the checkout time been advertised as 9am. 2. The arrival instructions need updating, we would suggest they say "On arrival go to the Bin Cupboard to the right of the parking space and enter the code ‘C259’ to open the locked cupboard, once inside you will find the keys in the key box with the large X on the front. Pull down the front cover and enter the code ‘2012’ to open the key box". We arrived at 5.30pm in the dark and couldn’t get into the bin cupboard because it was locked, I checked the text message I had been sent the day before by the agents and it only mentions code 2012. I telephoned Ingrid’s Flute the agents and my call went to voicemail. Luckily for us one of the residents of Holt’s Court came home from work whilst I was trying to call the office and opened the cupboard for us to retrieve the keys. When I went into the Ingrid’s Flute office on Monday, 13th February the woman in the office kept saying that someone was on call until 8pm on the night of our arrival, they might well have been but they weren’t answering the phone. We are not the only people to have problems accessing the key box, there are comments in the visitors’ book in the flat about this problem, the owners obviously don’t read the comments. 3. There are two televisions in the flat but only one can be used at a time. When the TV in the living room is being used it takes the signal away from the TV in the bedroom and that cannot be used, and vice versa. Although we are on holiday and out during the day it is quite nice to come home and watch some TV before bed, again it was one of the reasons we booked this flat as a lot of places only have one TV. 4. The kettle was leaking water from the glass panel on the front, very dangerous. I mentioned this when I went into the office and was told that it was nothing to do with the office as the apartment is owner managed and to look in the instruction book in the flat. This I did only to find that book does not give a phone number for the owner only an e-mail address. We don’t have access to e-mail when we are on holiday, we only take a pay as you go mobile with us that doesn’t have internet access. Yes, I could have phoned or gone back to Ingrid’s Flute but we were on holiday and by that point getting fed up of all the problems so we used a saucepan to boil water to make hot drinks during out holiday, not good enough. Would we book this apartment again – no, nor would we use Ingrid’s Flute as an agent. When I went into the office the man on reception could not find the apartment on the system and actually asked me if I was sure it was one of their properties, not very professional. We try to visit Whitby at least once a year as we love the town and surrounding area. We have never had any problems in previous years with the other apartments or agents we have used.

Mrs Lynda G,

The apartment was clean and well equipped, in a great location. We have stayed in many apartments in this complex and this was up there with the best.

Mrs Carol G,
