Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends.

Reviews

Well presented and located cottage with a very helpful and friendly owner who’d couldn’t have done more for us. Many thoughtful touches

Mrs H,

This is one of the nicest places we've stayed in Aldeburgh....and we've tried many! It is conveniently placed just off the High St. but is quietly situated so traffic noise is not a problem. It is very well equipped kitchen wise, and the welcome-pack/basket has to be seen to be believed! For those interested in Aldeburgh's connections with music, the cottage was the home of Viola Tunnard, Benjamin Britten's preferred piano accompanist and harpsichordist.

Mr W,

Warm, cosy, dog friendly cottage, beautifully presented. A lovely welcome basket was waiting for us which included some rather delicious treats for us and our dog. Location is perfect, right on Aldeburgh high street and a very short walk to the beach.

Mrs B,

Have had the perfect long weekend at the secret cottage, the owners had thought of everything and it was a really warm and comfortable property. Wish we had booked for longer but fully expect to stay again .

Mrs P,

A beautiful cottage in an excellent location, walking distance to everything - the beach, shops and restaurants. The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need. A welcome basket from the owner was waiting for us when we arrived which is very thoughtful and a lovely touch.

Mrs E,

We have visited The Secret Cottage a number of times finding it very conveniently located and comfortable . The owner goes out of her way to ensure everything you need is provided including a lovely welcome pack and car parking pass for Church car park . I’m sure we’ll return .

Mr D,

Beautiful cottage, superb location, couldn’t fault anything. A wonderful way to spend a long weekend. Will definitely be back!

Mrs Debbie T,

The Secret Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and the owner put a lot of effort into ensuring that our stay was enjoyable, including a generous and comprehensive hamper, even some very tasty (so I am told) dog treats!

Mrs M,

A charming, outstandingly well equipped cottage in a superb location minutes from both beach and shops/restaurants. It could not have been more perfect for our short New Year break with stylish Christmas decorations and lots of logs. The welcome hamper was the best we've ever had, and our dog loved the Christmas stocking of treats. Everything here is so thoughtful. Communication from the owner was excellent.

Mrs B,

The property is really well equipped and spotlessly clean. Its location is superb, so close to the centre and the sea but also quiet.
