Out and about:

Readers Retreat is situated in St. Michaels, very close to the famous Kent Biddenden Vineyard and a short distance to historic Tenterden which is known locally as the Jewel in the Weald.  Tenterden has two supermarkets, many restaurants, cafes and pubs.  It also has a leisure centre.  It is home to the Kent and East Sussex Railway which steams through the countryside for 11.5 miles, stopping at Northiam which is perfect for Bodiam Castle.  There are many National Trust properties and famous gardens locally including Great Dixter House and Gardens, Hole Park, Sissinghurst Castle to name a few. Bodiam Boating Station has a cafe and hires canoes and boats as well as boat trips along the River Rother. Rye and the Sussex coastline are only a short drive away and the area has fishing lakes and golf courses. Apart from Biddenden Vineyard, there are a few other well-know vineyards, such as Chapel Down and Hush Heath which are part of the Vineyard Tour, offering tastings of their local wines and beers.

Reviews

Excellent holiday, cottage was superb and the owner was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it.

Mrs H,

This was our second holiday at Readers Retreat and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. The cottage's really friendly and helpful owner gave us a very warm welcome and the beautiful vase of flowers and the goodies were much appreciated. We love the fact that the cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside, away from the hustle and bustle, but is still only a short drive away from amenities in places like Tenterden and Cranbrook. We like the cottage so much we are already considering a third visit.

Mr H,

Very peaceful setting, well-presented property; guests are made very welcome by the owners.

Mrs N,

Reliable and informative communication pre holiday. Best cottage we’ve ever stayed in! Beautiful location, comfortable, spotlessly clean and the owner on site was helpful and friendly, yet unobtrusive.

Mrs Sally B,

The property was in a lovely countryside setting away from any hustle and bustle - if you like peace and quiet and lovely views, this is the place for you! With the benefit of a very accommodating and friendly owner

Mr G,

Thank you Amanda, for the warm and unobtrusive hospitality. The cottage, patio and view felt like a oasis of calm. We appreciated all the lovely extras you left for us. So thoughtful. We are sad to leave the cottage behind and return to our normal life. Thanks very much and have a great summer!

Brian and V,

A lovely spacious (more so than the photos suggest) cottage in a beautiful setting with a very friendly and unobtrusive host, who left us several welcome treats. The bed is comfortable, extremely fluffy towels and heating very efficient. The wifi is working well enough to stream on the smart tv. The location is excellent, overlooking beautiful trees, sheep and birds at the bird feeder. At 2 miles from Tenterden and supermarkets it is ideal for shopping and eating out. The lane leading up to the property is narrow, but is quiet and has several passing points. Perfect location for visiting gardens and other landmarks. We had an excellent week, feeling very relaxed and we would highly recommend staying here.
