Description

Oozing sedate seaside charm, this friendly 2 bed cottage for 4 offers a fantastic Shaldon escape for couples and their pets.

Nestled a stone's throw away from the river, along a charming row of historical cottages, this hidden gem invites you to kick back and relax. It's super location also offers the perfect opportunity to get out an explore more of Shaldon and beautiful Devon.

The idyllic setting of Star Cottage is equally matched by its welcome flexibility; with 'St. Christopher's Cottage' just next door. Subject to availability; both pet-friendly cottages can be rented alongside one another; making them perfect for larger groups of 8.

To the front, the quaint garden of 'Star Cottage' offers a hint as to the pretty and relaxed atmosphere within. Set for carefree coastal stays, the friendly interior is decorated in a cosy beachy-style that perfectly suits its setting. A romantic wood burning stove sets the scene for ambient weekends here in good company; four-legged friends or not! The inviting living space is also equipped with free Wi-Fi and a flat screen HD TV with a DVD player and classic movie selection. A games-books library is also on hand for your enjoyment.

The coastal-inspired space flows freely between living and dining; with stripped floor boards and lantern lights continuing on the effortless feel. Here a relaxed dining area for 4 leads through to a country-style open kitchen. Newly-fitted and bathed in plenty of natural light, the kitchen lets you prepare unhurried breakfasts and meals together in comfort and style. All the necessary utensils, crockery and a cooker hob, oven, microwave, toaster, cafetiere, fridge and dishwasher provide everything you need to get started.

Upstairs, guests can spread out and enjoy a good night's rest, within the tranquil appeal of two bedrooms. A spacious king size bed to the front bedroom invites a couple to relax with a film and enjoy a guilt-free holiday slumber. A 2nd bedroom with double bed & drawers also offers a cosy nest in which to lay your head down, after a fun day out and about on the Devonshire coast.

The upstairs is also accompanied by a bathroom fitted with a bath tub, overhead electric shower with curtain, a wash basin and a WC. A washing machine is also provided for guests' use in the cottage.

Next to the cottage, the 'quintessential seaside pub' known as The Shipwright Arms offers a lovely sunny pub garden with a path leading down to the river. Live music is on offer at weekends.
Free public road parking can be found just a short walk away, along Salty Lane. The semi-rural track along which the cottages are situated is just a short stroll away from Shaldon.

Packed with useful shops, a colourful array of popular cafes and a selection of acclaimed local eateries (including the Michelin star Ode Restaurant), the quaint fishing village of Shaldon is home to everything; from fine cuisine to wholesome crab sandwiches! The riverside setting also makes it the perfect base from which to enjoy plenty of scenic dog walks. The passing South West Coastal Path provides a breath taking range of coastal and countryside walks on the doorstep; with nature trails, bird watching and forest walks accompanying most of the routes. The riverside setting also invites many to take to the water with canoeing, sailing and water sports.

A local park and recreation ground, a 9-hole golf course, a charming local zoo, a host of lovely beaches and the Homeyards Botanical Gardens can also be found in Shaldon. In August time, the village also succumbs to the joviality of the annual Shaldon Regatta, so be prepared to get swept up in the merriment!

Shaldon also offers a passenger ferry service to Teignmouth (from where trains operate to Exeter, Plymouth & London).

Visitors are within a 20 minutes' drive of the lively attractions of Torquay, whilst the surrounding area is also awash with beautiful National Trust attractions, beaches, coastal tourist attractions and sport activity centre to enjoy.

Nearby Dartmoor also offers a dynamic day out for walking, mountain biking, wild swimming and extreme sports.

Security deposit: This property has a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200, which is payable with the final balance of your holiday, eight weeks prior to your arrival, and is refunded within 5 working days of your departure. Alternatively, you may wish to pay a non-refundable Accidental Damage Deposit Waiver equivalent to 10% of the Accidental Damage Deposit value, which covers you for the full value of the Accidental Damage Deposit, should any damage occur during your stay.

Parking: You can park on road in the lane at the back of the cottage or in Salty Lane . There is a short stay car park at the end of St George’s Playing Field and an additional large car park is at the Ness above the village, about 15 minutes walk from the cottage. Please note The Shipwrights Arms Car Park is for Patrons only

Reviews

Excellent beautiful everything that you needed would thoroughly recommend will definitely stay again

Mrs M,

This was a lovely little cottage in a good location, perfect for our stay.

Mrs W,

Lovely cosy cottage and location. Beds were very comfy and felt like home from home with all the facilities available. Even Netflix on the TV! Even though parking is not available, we didn't find it too much of a problem, if you cannot get a space in Salty Lane, we found some cheeky little spaces if you turn right out of the cottage, then right along the main road and the next right, there is a no parking sign, however there are no restrictions in place. Also there are 2 little benches overlooking the water and boats which is lovely to sit on an evening with a glass of wine. All in all very nice but I will say the cottage can do with a refresh of paint.

Ms B,

Beautiful cottage in beautiful village
