Tunstall, a country village 6 miles from the Suffolk coast, is home to the Church of St Michael's, noted for its distinctive box pews. Scapa Lodge is located in the hamlet of Tunstall Common which lies half a mile south of Tunstall on the margins of Tunstall Forest, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It provides walkers, cyclists (including mountain-bikers) and horse riders alike a beautiful site of ancient lowland heath to explore. Nature lovers might like to see the broadleaved trees and new coniferous plantation rife, with fauna and flora (ground nesting nightjar and woodlark, fallow deer, bell heather, milkwort, speedwell and sheep). Bookworms will be fascinated in the hamlet and forest; it is the setting of Robert Louis Stevenson's The Black Arrow: A Tale of Two Roses (1888) of which there is a copy of in the lodge for you to read.
