Description

A delightful, unique, and spacious period cottage dating from 1796, Dart Cottage is an exceptional property full of history and even comes with its own dedicated parking. Situated on Aldeburgh High Street, Dart Cottage is in a wonderfully central location in the town, with its great array of shops and restaurants, and what's more, it is only 150 yards from Aldeburgh's beautiful pebble beach. This pet friendly property is ideally located to enjoy a wealth of scenic walks, both coastal and countryside whilst also offering the convenience of having pubs, shops, and eateries on the doorstep.

Brimming with character and charm, this very generously proportioned property is perfect for couples or a family to enjoy everything this seaside town has to offer. A welcoming and comfortable front room offers the perfect space to relax with comfy seating, a large sash window and a coal effect gas fireplace. The compact kitchen has been well thought out to provide a light and bright space, while the separate dining room has beautiful flagstone flooring, exposed beams and a large wooden table. This room has a distinctly old-world feel with its flagstone floor, exposed beams and an ornamental brick fireplace - it is truly full of history! Head upstairs to find the two comfortable and lovingly furnished bedrooms. The first is a fresh and inviting double bedroom and the second, a very generous twin room with an attractive sash window and convenient extra basin. The first floor is completed by a quaint and stylish bathroom which features a shower over the bath.

Outside, there is the choice of two lovely spaces to enjoy. To the front of the cottage is a pretty enclosed cottage front garden which is brimming with established shrubs and flowers and in the warmer months and the bistro set is ideal for enjoying your morning coffee whilst watching over the bustling town. To the side of the cottage, there is a wonderful side courtyard area which offers both parking for 2 cars and a space for eating and relaxing outside. In addition, for cycle and other secure storage, guests have access to the old boat house and in here is a gas BBQ, and garden tables and chairs for guest use.

Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends. A mile down the road is Thorpeness, a beautiful village with a fairytale atmosphere given its Peter Pan themed Meare and The House In The Clouds. Further along the coast is Sizewell which has a dog friendly beach all year round and is only a short drive from Leiston which is home to a cinemaleisure centre and museum. You can spend a day at RSPB Minsmere, a 20 minute drive from Aldeburgh, and be on the lookout of bitterns, otters and marsh harriers. Dunwich is also well worth a visit with its rich history, ruins and fantastic pub.

Reviews

Wonderfully located pretty cottage with the added bonus of private parking in a gated courtyard. Thoughtfully well equipped.

Mr W,

We had the most wonderful holiday at Dart Cottage. It is in a fabulous location, with wonderful restaurants within minutes of the front door and the beach 5 minutes stroll away. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and felt the cottage was the perfect size for a couple with 2 labradors.

Ms W,

Absolutely beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean, so cosy and comfortable, perfect location. Highly recommend, we will definitely book again.

Ms T,

Stayed at this property last year and was impressed enough to return this year. Location on the High Street is excellent and the refurbishment of the gas fire has added the final touch.

Mr B,

We love Dart Cottage: quirkiness, position in town, feels like home. already booked for 2024!

Dr M,

This is a fantastic location and the ability to park 3 cars in the drive is a huge bonus. It has great access to the beach and everything Aldeburgh has to offer. Like other properties in the centre of Aldeburgh we found it to be very warm at night, with little air circulation. Fans are provided to help with this.

Mr H,

Dart Cottage is very old with many original features but with excellent modern facilies right in the centre od Aldebugh. We enjoyed our stay enormously.

Mr B,

We had a very enjoyable stay and the cottage was very comfortable as indicated in my scores. A couple of issues however being ithat the gas fire in the sitting room could'nt be lit and the kitchen window could "use" a blind for privacy as it was somewhat disconcerting to find people staring in both in the daytime and at night. This was due to the proximity of the cottage to the town steps.

Mr Keith B,
