Mr G,

Location

With dramatic cliffs shaped by the Atlantic Ocean, the Lizard Peninsula is one of Cornwall’s most impressive landscapes. The rugged coastline is dotted with white sandy beaches and little fishing ports and overflows with such incredible scenery, you’ll never put your camera down! You’ll find plenty of pretty coves and beaches to explore as well as some picturesque little villages. Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands and Polurrian Cove are great beaches famed for their stunning scenery and Cadgwith, Mullion and Coverack all make the perfect holiday base or day out.

Coverack, on the southern edge of the Lizard Peninsula, is a small fishing village retaining much of its original charm and atmosphere. The large, sheltered bay is perfect for swimming and windsurfing. Mullion, the largest village on the Lizard, offers an array of shops, pubs, cafés, restaurants, craft shops and art galleries. Neighbouring Mullion Cove is a pretty, working harbour where you can book fishing excursions to take you out for a few hours or an entire day. Villages don’t come more picture-perfect than Cadgwith. Located on the southern part of the peninsula, the village has a little shingle beach which is home to a colourful array of fishing boats. Typical of the whole Lizard area, the village is full of stone and whitewashed cottages, many with thatched roofs.

The fabulous South West Coast Path winds around the Lizard Peninsula following the whole coastline. The perfect way to take in the full beauty of the area! Turquoise seas, majestic cliffs and the unique nature of the area mean it’s ideal for more than just walking. Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, from snorkelling, scuba diving and windsurfing to coasteering, horse riding and rock climbing!

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary in nearby Gweek is another great family fun day out. You can also visit the Lizard Lighthouse, Roskilly's Farm where they produce their own Cornish ice cream, the Marconi centre at Poldhu, see the camels at Rosuick Organic Farm, enjoy a sea fishing trip to catch your supper and visit many other fascinating places.
