Description

Enchantingly romantic and an idyllic couples' retreat, The Linney is a unique self-catering home on the edge of Magestic Bodmin Moor.  This beautiful and secluded setting will inspire writers, artists and romantics alike with its peaceful ambiance and rural setting.  The open plan lounge/kitchen/diner offers guests a great place to relax, with a cosy log burner and a well equipped kitchen and the en suite bathroom boasts a decadent roll top bath to enjoy. You can also enjoy a welcome tray of a cream tea on arrival and Organic Trevarno guest toiletries in the bathroom.

It is one of 7 beautifully converted barns which now form the peaceful hamlet of Penrose Burden and if you wish to book the other cottages here, there is also Jingles, GoosehillButterwell, Troutstream, Otterbridge and Snappers.  It's the perfect base to explore the North Cornwall coast with Port Isaac, Padstow, Rock, Boscastle and Polzeath all nearby and its central location makes both North and South coastlines easily accessible; the South with its long sandy beaches, historic ports, secluded creeks and the Eden Project, and the North with its dramatic cliffs, quiet coves, grand country houses and historic market towns.

There is a fabulous local pub nearby serving great food and perfect for a Sunday roast, a well stocked local shop and Post Office and access to walks over Bodmin Moor.  A short walk to the start of the Camel Trail for walking or cycling where you can find the fabulous 'Snail's Pace Café' and also close to local craft at Wenfordbridge Pottery. A country lane stroll away, you will also find the lovely St Tudy Inn. Cornwall's favourite attractions are all accessible - Eden, Bodmin and Wenford Railway, Lanhydrock House and Pencarrow House to name but a few.

Reviews

The Linney is a beautiful little cottage set against an amazing location overlooking a valley. It is one of seven dwellings on the site. It is totally private and even has its own EV charging point which is so convenient. It is equipped with everything you would need and much more It is well located within easy reach of all the main coastal destinations and also has some beautiful National Trust sites a stones throw away. The owners Jane and Ian are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. They had laid out a wonderful Cornish cream tea and chocolate goodies to greet us upon arrival and there was fresh milk in the fridge and coffee pods ready for the machine-what more could you want. Will definitely be returning to Penrose Burden Cottages and will be highly recommending them to family and friends.

Mr H,

Fabulous cottage with a friendly, informative owner in a quiet beauty spot with easy access to the coast, the Camel trail and Bodmin moor.

Mrs N,

Location beautiful but it’s quite remote and quite a walk to pub/shop

Mrs Gillian G,

The warm welcome of the owner. the House itself and the stunning locations.

Mrs Gerrie D,

Very clean property. Wonderful views. And very nice owners. Who were extremely helpful

Mr Ray P,

Jane is a very friendly, welcoming & helpful owner. The cottage is in a peaceful, rural location, with wonderful views across fields & valley. It is well equipped & comfortable and provided for a happy stay. The tray of locally made treats & guest toiletries is a lovely addition and the laundry/drying room came in very handy after a coastal walk in the rain. Although there are 6 holiday cottages on site, they each have parking spaces outside and are separate so you still have your own personal space to relax & enjoy some peaceful time away. Despite mixed weather, we did 3 days of South West Coast Path walking (between Bude & Tintagel) and 3 days of visiting National Trust properties (Lanhydrock especially recommended). All locations were within easy reach in the car. We were very happy with our choice of cottage. The Linney is an ideal & cosy retreat for a couple. It is very clear how much love & care has gone into creating a homely environment in which to stay. The communication from Original Cottages and the owners was very helpful too.

Mrs Karen W,

Excellent holiday cottage; really clean; lovely views; everything you could need for a relaxing break.

Mr Stephen M,

Excellent holiday cottage; really clean; lovely views; everything you could need for a relaxing break.

Mr Stephen M,

Location

If ever there was a place to fully appreciate the stark beauty of the Cornish landscape, Bodmin Moor has to be it.  With endless sweeping vistas in every direction, tumbled outcrops of granite, and inviting paths and tracks to explore, this area of Cornwall is a walker's paradise.  The famous Jamaica Inn is sited here, with all its literary and historical associations.  With plenty of sheep and moorland ponies wandering freely (be sure to keep your dog under control!) you can almost imagine you have been transported back to those bygone days.  More recently, of course, the moor was used extensively for filming on the new adaptation of Poldark.  When the dashing Mr Poldark gallops across your screen, you may well be seeing the scenery of the moor in the background. A large part of the moor has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  This region also has its fair share of Arthurian legends, another facet which lends a mysterious air to the landscape, and an extra depth to Cornwall's rich and varied history, and of course who can forget the rumours of the Beast of Bodmin Moor? The many other attractions, including the National Trust's Lanhydrock House, the verdant and flourishing Tamar Valley, historic sites such as castles, the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, and plenty of evidence of Cornwall's mining legacy, make this area a must-see.
