Description

Goosehill is one of 7 beautifully converted barns with brand new furnishings and fittings which now form the peaceful hamlet of Penrose Burden.  It has been renovated to create the perfect retreat in a designated dark sky area with stunning views across the Camel Valley.  The location provides easy access to North Cornwall coast including Port Isaac, Padstow, Rock, Boscastle and Polzeath and the cottage is perched on the very edge of the majestic Bodmin Moor which is surely one of the last completely unspoilt places in England. Its central location makes both coastlines easily accessible; the South with its long sandy beaches, historic ports, secluded creeks and the Eden Project, and the North with its dramatic cliffs, quiet coves, grand country houses and historic market towns. You can also enjoy a welcome tray of a cream tea on arrival and Organic Trevarno guest toiletries in the bathroom.

The open plan lounge/kitchen/diner is luxurious, the owners have thought of all their guests needs, there are even usb charger points in all the rooms and the two en suite bedrooms are perfect for families or friends wishing to stay in this wonderful part of Cornwall.  If you wish to book the other cottages here, there is also The LinneyButterwell, Otterbridge, Troutstream, Jingles and Snappers.

There is a fabulous local pub nearby serving great food and perfect for a Sunday roast, a well stocked local shop and Post Office and access to walks over Bodmin Moor.  A short walk to the start of the Camel Trail for walking or cycling where you can find the fabulous 'Snail's Pace Café' and also close to local craft at Wenfordbridge Pottery. A country lane stroll away, you will also find the lovely St Tudy Inn. Cornwall's favourite attractions are all accessible - Eden, Bodmin and Wenford Railway, Lanhydrock House and Pencarrow House to name but a few.

Goosehill has been recognised by We Are Cycling UK as a Cycle Friendly Place and is even part of a Strava segment!

Reviews

We were so delighted with Goosehill on our arrival. Such a cozy cottage and spotlessly clean. It is down some narrow country lanes and some reviews state it is remote. Personally we didn’t think it was remote in the least and Cornwall is full of narrow lanes anyway. It was in the most beautiful area with the most stunning views down to the Camel trail which was literally a 3 minute drive away. We were very lucky with the weather for October. The cottage has all you need to self cater regarding kitchen equipment and the beds have to be the most comfy. We haven’t slept that well in years. It is so quiet and peaceful. The cream tea and dog treats were a really thoughtful and welcome gift on our arrival. We would stay here again in a heartbeat the owners are lovely. So kind and very welcoming and there if you need them for anything. Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mrs S,

We received a very nice welcome. The owners are very friendly and helpful with everything. It should be emphasized that we have rarely had such a clean and well-equipped holiday apartment. The mattresses are simply fantastic. I have never slept as well in a hotel as I did in Goosehill. If we visit Cornwall again we would book here again.

Mrs K,

The property itself was fabulous and suited our needs with 2 couples and a dog. Everything was of a high standard and the owners had taken great trouble to think of everything you might need, including doggie biscuits and towels and a lovely welcoming cream tea. It was only the position which we felt was limiting.

Mrs G,

Delighted with the accommodation and the booking process thank you

Mrs Angela C,

Property was amazing and beautifully presented with amazing hosts on site

Mrs Helena P,

Cottage beautifully clean and comfortable and extremely ‘doggy friendly’. Another lovely stay at Goosehill’!

Dr Michelle Y,

The property is well equipped and wonderfully situated to explore many attractions both to the north and south. Views from the cottage are stunning! The property is very doggy friendly with an enclosed garden and the owners kindly provide doggy towels/blankets/treats etc; all greatly appreciated. A lovely welcome tray is included as well. All in all a great holiday venue; we certainly plan to book again!

Dr Michelle Y,

Location

If ever there was a place to fully appreciate the stark beauty of the Cornish landscape, Bodmin Moor has to be it.  With endless sweeping vistas in every direction, tumbled outcrops of granite, and inviting paths and tracks to explore, this area of Cornwall is a walker's paradise.  The famous Jamaica Inn is sited here, with all its literary and historical associations.  With plenty of sheep and moorland ponies wandering freely (be sure to keep your dog under control!) you can almost imagine you have been transported back to those bygone days.  More recently, of course, the moor was used extensively for filming on the new adaptation of Poldark.  When the dashing Mr Poldark gallops across your screen, you may well be seeing the scenery of the moor in the background. A large part of the moor has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  This region also has its fair share of Arthurian legends, another facet which lends a mysterious air to the landscape, and an extra depth to Cornwall's rich and varied history, and of course who can forget the rumours of the Beast of Bodmin Moor? The many other attractions, including the National Trust's Lanhydrock House, the verdant and flourishing Tamar Valley, historic sites such as castles, the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, and plenty of evidence of Cornwall's mining legacy, make this area a must-see.
