Location

Bude has been a popular holiday destination since the 19th century, when train travel began to allow people much more freedom to explore the country.  It is still well-loved by its many visitors, whether you prefer to relax and hire a beach hut for the day, or participate in something more active, such as surfing and other water sports, horse-riding, cycling or maybe a round of golf or two. You can get the ferry out to Lundy Island, a good place to see local sea and bird life including puffins, or perhaps hire a rowing boat or pedalo to take out on the canal.  While down by the canal, pop into the Bude Heritage Centre to learn about the history of the area, and look round the art gallery. Visitors can also bag a bargain at Atlantic Village, and if you're here out of season, this popular shopping centre has an ice rink, and is open seven days a week.  During the season, there is also a farmer's and craft market on the wharf, where you can pick up souvenirs of your trip. For something a little different, a local geology expert offers guided tours of the area.  Or you might like to take the scenic circular walk along the Planekeeper's Path, along the canal and back to the town via winding footpaths.
