Description

Hidden away down a quiet lane is Trenarlett Farm in the heart of rural Cornwall.  Barney's Cottage has recently been converted from a former barn into luxury accommodation. Beautifully restored with painstaking attention to detail, this wonderfully spacious cottage affords lovely views of the surrounding countryside from its large enclosed private gardens. Barney's is the perfect choice for couples looking for space and comfort in a peaceful location. Whilst independent from the farm and each other, a combination of cottages can be booked together for larger parties looking for that together holiday without being too together!  Trenarlett Farm is in the centre of a triangle formed by the pretty villages of St Tudy, Blisland and St Breward, all roughly 1.5-2 miles away. Each has a village shop/post office and traditional friendly pub, between them serving a good variety of food, with real fires in winter. Just 10 minutes' drive from the A30 and only 5 from the Atlantic Highway (A39) you are well placed to enjoy the Moors, the stunning coast path, an endless choice of gorgeous beaches, pasties in Padstow, Doc Martin in Port Isaac or maybe the zip wire over the amazing Eden Project. Cornwall is your oyster as they say! See also The West Wing, The West Wing Plus, Hetty's, Ben's Barn and Dickins' Cottage. Check out additional services available via the owners.

Reviews

We could not recommend Barney’s Cottage enough, it really is a gem. It is a beautiful cottage, very clean and well kept, and ideal for privacy and dogs. This ticks all the boxes and is truly a great place to stay. It is located in an amazing off the beaten track yet easily accessible area with natural beauty all around. It is very spacious inside and equipped with everything you need. The shower is excellent and spacious. The outside is fabulous and private, not being over looked, and very large with so much room for a dog or dogs and children to run around play and exercise plenty, maybe around a third of an acre or more of land. The owners are extremely friendly and very helpful and made us feel most welcome. We have already booked our next stay here as a result. 10 out of 10.

Mr H,

This is a really beautiful place to stay. The cottage is exceptionally clean and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The owners are lovely and are happy to help with any issues (we had a problem with the shower but this was quickly fixed). The garden is large and secure - fantastic for our three dogs! We were also able to use the very large secure field next to the garden, which again our dogs loved! The cottage is in a fantastic location for exploring North Cornwall and particularly Bodmin Moor. It is also incredibly peaceful, no traffic sound, just the odd owl twit twooing through the night! Overall, we had a very relaxing stay.

Mrs P,

This property was everything we wanted and more. It was clean, well kitted out, and in fact a home from home. Having the log burner was also a wonderful extra and felt very cosy in the evenings. The owners were very friendly and made sure we had all we needed on arrival and came up to make sure we had had a good holiday and if everything was as we wanted on departure. This was by far one of the best property’s we have stayed in. We will definitely return to Barney’s or one of the other cottages at this location.

Mrs H,

We had a lovely time and "Barneys“ is beautiful! Nothing is missing and the owners are very nice and helpful! Thank you so much!

Mrs H,

We’ve stayed in many holiday cottages and Barney’s cottage was by far the best one ever. Absolutely faultless. Everything you could ever need for your stay and very well decorated. The garden was perfect for our dogs and the owner very welcoming and helpful. Would love to go again one day soon.

Mrs V,

Lovely spotlessly clean cottage with large secure well kept garden which was great for our dogs. Huge comfy bed and plenty of space throughout cottage and for parking. Owners very friendly and helpful

Mrs K,

Barney's cottage was a lovely place to stay and the garden was superb - well fenced so safe for our setters, lovely views and plenty of different seating areas. The only let down was the weather but still very glad to have stayed here. The Colquite Estate was an excellent place to walk the dogs - lots of different paths and lots of friendly fellow dog walkers.

Mrs S,

Lovely cottage, fantastic garden for the dogs. Sophy the owner was very welcoming. Beautiful quiet location but a little too remote for us.

Mr Gary B,

I hesitate to recommend this property because it is SO good I don’t really want too many others to find it!!!

Ms S,

The property was located down a narrow country lane . But had fantastic views from the large enclosed garden. Unfortunately the only downside was the slippery, slate steps and patio due to the rain. Green moss on the slate made it very slippy. Hand rail would be beneficial. Had to pay £30 per dog ( we took 3) Dogs had to kept on a lead at all times due to a working farm which is no problem but witnessed a man walking his dog off lead. At the end of the stay you are asked to strip the bed unfortunately when we did this there was several stains on the duvet. ( This should have been changed before we arrived) A few of the plates were chipped too.

Mrs T,

Excellent property, fully equipped and in a great location. This year was our 10th visit to Barney's Cottage.

Mrs G,

Location

If ever there was a place to fully appreciate the stark beauty of the Cornish landscape, Bodmin Moor has to be it.  With endless sweeping vistas in every direction, tumbled outcrops of granite, and inviting paths and tracks to explore, this area of Cornwall is a walker's paradise.  The famous Jamaica Inn is sited here, with all its literary and historical associations.  With plenty of sheep and moorland ponies wandering freely (be sure to keep your dog under control!) you can almost imagine you have been transported back to those bygone days.  More recently, of course, the moor was used extensively for filming on the new adaptation of Poldark.  When the dashing Mr Poldark gallops across your screen, you may well be seeing the scenery of the moor in the background. A large part of the moor has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  This region also has its fair share of Arthurian legends, another facet which lends a mysterious air to the landscape, and an extra depth to Cornwall's rich and varied history, and of course who can forget the rumours of the Beast of Bodmin Moor? The many other attractions, including the National Trust's Lanhydrock House, the verdant and flourishing Tamar Valley, historic sites such as castles, the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, and plenty of evidence of Cornwall's mining legacy, make this area a must-see.
