Description

High Tides is to be found tucked away in a quiet close in the heart of Portwrinkle and just moments from the seafront. This split-level, detached house is designed to make the most of the outstanding sea views and its peaceful location. One floor is dedicated to a spacious living/dining room with large picture windows providing uninterrupted panoramic views across the bay from Rame Head to St George’s Island in Looe and beyond. Nestled on the cliffside, High Tides is built across several levels but with just a few steps between each level so there are no long flights of stairs to contend with.

If it’s peace and tranquillity you are looking for, then you will certainly find this at Portwrinkle. It is however also well-positioned for easy access to the A38 from Plymouth by car (crossing the Tamar by the Saltash bridge or ferry from Torpoint) or you can catch a foot ferry from the beach at nearby Cawsand (seasonal timetable) to the Barbican Landing Stage and enjoy a day out in the vibrant city. Other local attractions include the Monkey Sanctuary near Looe and Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, where you can enjoy a cream tea in the Orangery after exploring the beautiful parklands. You can play golf at the local Whitsand Bay Golf Club overlooking the bay or spend a day out at the Eden Project exploring the biomes.

Often considered to be Cornwall’s secret corner, the Rame Peninsula is home to tidal creeks, sandy beaches backed by rocky outcrops, rolling fields and country parks. Tiny villages are dotted around and this stretch of coast fronting Whitsand Bay has expansive views across glistening seas, spectacular walks along the South West Coast Path and one of the few surfing spots on this side of the county.

Please be aware the staircase could be unsuitable for small children under 5.

Reviews

A super spacious house on four levels and beautiful sea views. Ideal for a party of 6 people and child friendly

Mrs P,

The view is wonderful and the sitting room a perfect place to relax.

Mr J,

High tides is a very well maintained house, with thorough information and it is very easy to feel at home there. The view from the living/dining room is breathtaking and for a Christmas break it was wonderful. Local amenities are accessible too. We were greeted by wine and chocolates and other practical supplies. Next year, only the addition of a Christmas tree could make it better!

Mr Jonathan T,

Location

Portwrinkle, in Cornish Porthwykkel, is located on the southeast coast of Cornwall. This small village has a fine view along Whitsand Bay and a history going as far back as medieval times.

Portwrinkle has two main beaches Finnygook and Hoodny Cove, and smaller beaches nearby, at low tide, there are plenty of rock pools to explore with their variety of sea life. Access to both beaches is by steep paths and limited at high tide.  On the cliffs above these two main beaches there are two small car parks (only a few minutes walk away). There are also toilets nearby.

Finnygook is south facing and stands on the eastern side of Portwrinkle.  It is sandy, backed by cliffs and is the most popular beach for experienced surfers and families, but please take notice of the on-site warnings regarding swimming and the cliffs.   Hoodny Cove is adjacent to the quay and harbour and is on the western side.

Please be aware, there is no lifeguard service at either of Portwrinkle's beaches although rescue equipment is available.
