Description

Hidden away down a quiet lane in the beautiful seaside village of Walberswick on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, The Lodge is a wonderful, large self-catering house for family holidays or weekends away with friends.

An outstanding feature of this property is the lovely setting, surrounded by a large secluded garden laid to lawn and shrubs, a great space for relaxation and family games. There is also a large patio area with garden furniture - ideal for relaxing on lazy summer afternoons or evenings.  A newly installed outdoor shower will prove to be a luxury extra!

During the early part of 2022 The Lodge has had a substantial ground floor extension added that has created a significantly larger open plan kitchen, dining area and adjacent sitting room opening out on to the patio via bifold doors.  There is also a new utility room and downstairs shower room and cloakroom.

Pub: 200 yards, Shop: 200 yards.

Walberswick is a former fishing village just across the harbour at Southwold – you can take the small ferry boat from Southwold across (summer season only) or there is the footbridge to use. Walberswick has surrounding heath and marshland which are protected as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walberswick is very popular with walkers, cyclists and families and is known for its annual crabbing competitions. Walberswick has attracted famous figures over the years with many famous celebrities maintaining homes in the village. The village has two pubs – The Anchor and The Bell Inn – the latter which inspired the creation of Adnams’ Ghost Ship Ale, a tearoom, art gallery and gift shop. There are some fantastic walks from Walberswick via the Suffolk Coast Path leading to the historical village of Dunwich. Other attractions nearby include the seaside town of Southwold, Blythburgh and RSPB Minsmere Reserve is just a short drive away.

Reviews

We absolutely loved our stay and have booked again for next year already! The location was perfect and the open plan kitchen diner made for the perfect entertaining area for 3 generations to enjoy!

Mr M,

This house combines character and practicality. It definitely has its quirky side with unique staircases and interlocking rooms, alongside a superb modern kitchen diner overlooking the spacious garden, and plenty of bathrooms. Lots of personal items and artwork make this a homely and welcoming property. Its location means you could park up and not use the car for a week. There are local shops, pubs, and beach activities just a few minutes stroll away, and of course endless coastal and countryside walks.

Mrs P,

Our family (3 generations plus dogs) spent a lovely long weekend at The Lodge. The property is spacious and accommodated all of us very well. It has a great social space for all the family to gather. It is very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay, we felt very much at home on our holiday. It is in a brilliant location within Walberswick with all amenities within a short walk. It is detached and stands in a large garden making it the perfect spot if, like us, you have a bit of a noisy family! There are plenty of activities for everyone in the area from crabbing to great walks on the beach and the obligatory amusement arcade and pier in nearby Southwold. We would definitely choose The Lodge again for family holidays.

Mrs C,

The house and village are an ideal holiday location, especially for a young family, or in our case, three generations. The house is well equipped (including a table tennis table and table football). The beach is close and suitable for swimming. The children loved the crab fishing. Whatever the weather, the house is a lovely place to stay. There are many local attractions, and very pleasant walks to Southwold or towards Dunwich

Mr L,

Excellent location for the beach and delights of Walberswick. Wonderful open downstairs area with plenty of room for seven people. Great garden games for maximising the outside area.

Mrs C,

absolutely perfect venue for a short break. despite saying the garden wasn't secure, we only found one small section of the garden wasnt wired up, and we blocked this ourselves, meaning the dog could run freely. maybe the downstairs bedroom was a bit chilly. but honestly, a really superb cottage. will defo return.

Mr Ben C,

Fabulous weekend, the property was great, lots of space, the only problem we had was the induction hob, it was difficult to work out how to use it but we got there in the end and one of the saucepans kept making the hob turn off!!

Mrs Carolyn S,

No outside furniture or bbq as advertised. Heating times could not be controlled, house was absolutely freezing mornings and evenings. House overall was fab though.

mr Craig W,

Great house, location fantastic
