Description

Peacefully situated in the West Lyn Valley and surrounded by the natural splendour of Exmoor, this spacious country retreat is one of only two cottages close to the owners own home. Located just half a mile from the pretty Hamlet of Barbrook with garage stores and 2 miles to the renowned coastal village of Lynton.  Hawthorn cottage has been carefully converted from an original barn.  The cottage has been furnished and equipped to a high standard and provides a very comfortable holiday base.  Entering through large glazed doors you are welcomed by a spacious open plan living area with high vaulted ceiling. A shower room is also on this level. A further two attractive bedrooms can be found on the lower ground floor, one with an ensuite and the other served by a family bathroom.  Hawthorne cottage has its own patio, a fully enclosed garden, with gas barbecue and private off road parking for at least two cars.  Located on a quiet country lane that leads directly onto open moorland and with easy access to dramatic coastal and riverside walks, this is a haven for walkers and nature lovers. The famous twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth are connected by the unique water powered cliff railway and offer a wonderful selection of individual shops, cafes, restaurants and the picturesque harbour and rock and shingle beach at Lynmouth have stunning views of high cliffs that tumble down to the sea. Plenty of activities are available locally including riding, fishing, tennis courts, bowls and even star gazing as Exmoor is a designated ‘Dark Sky’ area!  For those who wish to venture further afield there are many local attractions including The Doone Valley, Porlock Weir, Watersmeet and the beautiful sandy surfing beaches of the Golden Coast around Woolacombe and Croyde are within 40 minutes’ drive.

Reviews

Perfect location to see the surrounding areas. Lovely cottage that was very comfortable. Completely pet friendly enclosed garden that was a must for us.

Mrs B,

Lovely barn conversion. Very quiet and peaceful.

Mrs D,

The property was located up a very very steep single track road It was impossible to walk my dog from the property any distance due the steepness The property could have been cleaner and the bedrooms downstairs could have been aired and warmer Not sure if it had been used recently as the grass was uncut and rather long Owner did cut the small patch of grass in the enclosure after a couple of days The over all impression was that it wasn’t well maintained- owner told us it was on the market as she had a viewing booked. Owner was lovely baked us a cake on arrival Lovely area although off the beaten track

Mrs Jacqueline A,

The property was lovely very comfortable. Suzzanne the owner very friendly. Location good for exploring. The road to the property very steep and windy, with passing places. A 5 minute walk and on the moors but you need to be fit to walk it. We had a lovely stay and loved our trips into Lynmouth.

Mrs W,

Perfectly placed for exploring exmoor and the coast. Great property , well equipped and suitable for a family. Walks from the door if you have a pet. Some great pubs and cafes in Lynmouth. Highly recommend this cottage
