Description

Oakdene Cottage is a part of Oakdene House, a large detached property built in the early 1970's, situated in the centre of the village of Chapel Stile, just a stones throw from the local village store and the Wainwrights Inn pub. There's walking from the doorstep in all directions, you really don't need to use the car to explore the Langdale Valleys and the Lake District National Park if you don't want to. If you jump in the car you'll find Ambleside just 10 minutes away. The towns of Grasmere and Windermere are a little further away. You can enjoy a variety of cafes, restaurants and bars in these nearby towns. The Lake District is home to lots of fabulous independent businesses, meaning there are plenty of interesting and unique shops for you to enjoy during your holiday in the Lake District.

In the 1980s this property was extended and split into two separate properties, the larger half sleeping 8 is Oakdene House and the smaller part sleeping 6 is Oakdene Cottage. If Oakdene Cottage isn't big enough for your whole family you can book both Oakdene House and Oakdene Cottage together, so up to 14 people can come on holiday to the Lake District, to find out more about both properties CLICK HERE

Oakdene Cottage is spread over three floors, the entrance into the cottage is to the left of the main house when accessed from the front, or down the right hand side of the building if approached from Oakdene Cottage private parking. A porch space for muddy boots and coats leads into the hallway on the ground floor. Off the hallway are two bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms. The first is the master with a king size bed, chest of drawers and built in wardrobe. The second bedroom is a twin, with large single beds (10 cm longer), hanging rail and chest of drawers. Both ensuite bathrooms have a WC, wash basin and shower. Also on the ground floor there's a shower room with shower, toilet and sink.

From the hallway the stairs lead up to the open plan lounge, kitchen and diner. The lounge has comfortable seating for six, Smart TV, Fibre 2 Wi Fi, blu-ray and music docking station. You can enjoy relaxing in the lounge at Oakdene Cottage after a day out exploring the Lake District fells. The kitchen is a good standard and has electric oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge and washer dryer. The dining area has a large oak table and chairs for six people so you can eat a delicious home cooked meal together or enjoy some good old fashion fun playing board games. The family bathroom with bath, shower over bath, toilet and sink is also on the first floor.

On the top floor is a third bedroom with standard size twin beds, hanging rail and drawers. There is also a storage cupboard housing the freezer, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner on this floor.

Oakdene has just had completion of extensive works done by the owners including ,new window frames, upgraded heating system. All bathrooms have been refurbished and the mattresses have also all been replaced in the bedrooms as well as new carpets throughout. Finally there is now the addition of an ensuite bathroom to one of the down stairs bedrooms making three bathrooms to three bedrooms in this lovely accommodation.

Oakdene Cottage has a part of the garden, set aside from Oakdene House. which is private and separated by a hedge  to the rear of the cottage. With well established plants and trees, a grassed area for family games and a table and chairs on a patio area provides seating and is mostly enclosed to be dog friendly (please be advised smaller dogs may be able to fit through the gate). A short path from here also leads to the private off road parking area specifically for Oakdene Cottage, with room for 2-3 cars.

What's included?

We want our holiday cottages to be a 'home for home'. All the beds are made up ready for you, towels are included so no need to bring those, and shower mats are also provided. Reviews

A spacious and comfortable property with a well-equipped kitchen. The location was ideal for us, very close to the village shop and a few minutes walk to the local pub. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for holiday accommodation in this area.

Mrs W,

We have had a lovely stay at Oakdene Cottage. We had six adults in the house which was fine. It’s good that each bedroom has an en-suite or bathroom. Parking is a huge plus here. Lots of equipment including cutlery, crockery and pans. The dishwasher broke whilst we were there. It was replaced in less than 24 hours. The Original Cottages team were great. Would definitely recommend Oakdene Cottage.

Mr C,

We really enjoyed the location of this property, and overall it was pleasant. There were a few minor niggles which have led to the 3 scores shown. Firstly there was a recurrent bad smell in the main bedroom ensuite. I believe the water U-bend under the shower trap is faulty and is letting foul air in from the sewer. The shower tray also leaks each time when used. The kitchen units are starting to look shabby with vinyl peeling off several of the doors. The kitchen equipment was also not as good as in other houses we’ve stayed in. There was no tray for carrying cups of tea, no small sharp kitchen knife, and no pizza cutting wheel, no kitchen scales, no good sized measuring jug, cafetière for only one person. These small additions would help better equip the kitchen.

Mr Paul T,

The property was in excellent condition and very clean. It was also very well located and had good parking facilities.

Mr Joseph S,

The cottage was perfect, stones throw away for our lab who loved jumping in the lake. Only this we were disappointed with is no Christmas decorations, we phoned on the 21st of December before we left to ask if the cottage had any Christmassy lights or tree etc and we were told it would so we didn’t pack any of our own, luckily we found a hayes and managed to buy a tree for our children - other than that it was fantastic.

Mrs Bethany C,

Had a great holiday and booked Oakdene house as well. There was a drainage smell in the downstairs bedrooms. Also quite a bit of noise transferrance between the 2 properties. No issue for us as we were 1 big group but could be annoying if you are only in one and can hear a lot of noise coming from the other.

Mr Michael H,
