Description

4 Swiss Villas is superbly located in the centre of Ambleside and is ideal for a relaxing or active holiday with a group of friends or family. This attractive three-storey property is situated just off the main street, on a lane leading down to Rothay Park, a fantastic park with a large grassed area and play area for children. In 2005 the property was extended to make a comfortable space for 6 and truly feels like a home away from home.

The front is set in an elevated position up a short flight of outside steps which are well lit for when it gets dark. The front door leads into a long hallway with the main staircase and the kitchen/dining area through to your left. The kitchen/diner has an original feature fireplace and Lakeland stone floor throughout. At one end there is a charming, rustic dining table with chairs and a large bay window with seating, to enjoy the view over the fells and village. The kitchen has all mod cons including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, slow cooker, oven and hob and an abundance of crockery and kitchen equipment to suit requirements. The kitchen area leads through into the boot room, shower room, cellar and the back door.

The boot room has plenty of space for muddy boots and to hang coats, you can also access the patio area from here via the back door. The cellar has plenty of space for storing bikes and holiday equipment, along with an additional fridge/freezer and tumble dryer. 

To the left of the kitchen/diner is the lounge, which has a gas operated cast iron stove, perfect for those cold winter nights. There’s seating for six, plenty of books and games for guests to use, along with a large smart TV.

Up the first flight of stairs you are met by the family bathroom with bath/shower, sink and toilet. On the first floor is a twin bedroom overlooking the rooftops of Millans Park and the large master bedroom, with a queen-size zip link bed (can be arranged as twins on request) and great views over the rooftops of the village towards Wansfell and beyond. On the top floor is another large bedroom with a king-size bed and views towards the fells.

The house benefits from a large patio that goes front to back, this is mostly paved and gravelled. A picnic table is provided on the side patio and a bench at the front to enjoy the view and watch the world go by.

4 Swiss Villas has a rear gate which leads out along a communal path to Millans Park offering level access to the property. Guests can then come and go using the back door of the property which leads straight into the boot room.

A parking permit allows residents to park 1 car in Vicarage Road and Millans Park. 

The cottage is in an excellent location for enjoying all Ambleside has to offer. You are 50 yards from Zeffirelli’s Cinema and Restaurant, numerous wine bars, restaurants (Matthew's Bistro is a particular favourite of the owners) and pubs are all close by.

N.B. there is low water pressure at this property.

Perfect cottage for us, lots of games for our 10 year old, jigsaws for the adults and lots of space for our black Labrador to sunbathe outside - the boot room doubled up as her bedroom and it was great having somewhere she could escape to at night to get much needed rests after walks and swims in Rydal Water. Lots of walks for us all to do directly from the cottage, and our 10 year old loved the freedom of going to the playpark on their own. Takeaways from Jintana Thai, Dodds and Misto. Had an amazing week, our first proper holiday since lockdown. Thank you for sharing your superb cottage with us - already thinking about when we can come back!

Another fab stay in this lovely cottage. Ambleside is the perfect place to celebrate New Year and catch up with good friends. Lots of great dog walking spaces and dog-friendly places to eat and drink. Enjoyed dinner at Lucy's and at the Priest Hole, as well as drinks at The Temperance Inn. The Badger Bar was another welcomed stop over on a lovely circular walk. Can't wait for our next visit!
