Description

Luke’s House is a stone built traditional Dales cottage and is tucked away on a `no through' lane between the villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg.  The property is grade II listed and dates back to 1604. This well-equipped cottage boasts character and charm at every turn with beamed ceilings, window seats, stained glass windows and an Inglenook fireplace featuring a solid fuel stove which is ideal to cosy up in front of after a busy day exploring the Yorkshire Dales.  There is a south facing garden with uninterrupted views over the fields and the Dale beyond.  This would make an ideal peaceful retreat for simply enjoying the surrounding scenery or for walking direct from the door with both villages within easy walking distance. Reviews

A lovely house in a remote location but not too far from the villages and towns. We had a comfortable holiday and enjoyed the wildlife both around the house and in the local area.

Mrs F,

Great location and setup, I would recommend this cottage.

Mr L,

If you’re looking for bright lights, try star gazing. If you’re after loud music, try the dawn chorus. If you can’t get by without gadgets, try enjoying the natural wonders that surround Luke’s Cottage. A delightful property for all generations, and the dogs will love it too.

Mr H,

Location

Askrigg
The small Wensleydale village of Askrigg is an idyllic location to enjoy a self-catering break. The sights of the Yorkshire Dales National Park surround you, with the bustling market towns of Hawes, Leyburn and Northallerton being just a short drive away where you'll find lovely independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The village is famous for being the setting of fictional Darrowby in tv's All Creatures Great and Small, though in the 18th century was hive of industry when it became a centre for the textiles and knitting trade. It is also thought that Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in Askrigg's Nappa Hall before being moved further down the dale to Castle Bolton. Today in the village you'll find three pubs, The Crown Inn (which dates back to 1850), The White Rose Hotel and the Kings Arms. The village also is home to some great tea rooms such as The Bakewell Cafe and The Corn Mill Tea Room (Bainbridge), a village bakery with a delicatessen, a village store and newsagents. In nearby Leyburn, you will find the Wensleydale Brewery & shop, which runs open days.
