Description

Nestling in a pretty, wooded glade, at the end of a half mile private road, Wagtail Cottage is one of a small group of properties surrounded by open farmland.  Tucked away in peaceful countryside on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, close to Gisburn Forest with its mountain bike tracks and walking routes, Wagtail Cottage is situated at the end of a half mile private road. This comfortable cottage is one of a small group of properties surrounded by open farmland situated within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Due to their effort to be environmentally friendly, the owners achieved a Gold Star Standard Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Heating and hot water are supplied by a central boiler fuelled by wood chip, and all lighting is by low energy bulbs. All cleaning products are made on site from natural materials.

Garden produce can be purchased when available. The cottages and farmhouse have all been comfortably furnished to a high standard and provide excellent holiday accommodation, which is personally managed by the owners and their family. Well maintained the cottages all have their own patios, which then merge into landscaped gardens, making this an idyllic and peaceful setting for a rural holiday.

On site there is a 10 x 5m heated indoor swimming pool, a games room with table tennis, pool table, table football and childrens' games as well as a full size snooker table. A tennis court and 7 a side football field provide entertainment for the more energetically minded but for those with peace and quiet in mind an afternoon by the stream can be most relaxing. Holidaymakers have access to the farmland, through which there some very pleasant walks. For the more adventurous the Three Peaks are on the doorstep where the open fells and moors provide a superb backdrop for more stunning scenery. Close by is Gisburn Forest, where there are many way-marked cycle trails and walks.  For mountain bikers there are some excellent trails in the Gisburn Forest which are suitable for all levels. There is secure bike storage and bike wash available on site. There is also coarse fishing on Stocks Reservoir and fly fishing on the River Ribble.

The busy, attractive market town of Settle is just seven miles away and the Yorkshire Dales, Trough of Bowland and Lake District are all easily accessible by car.

Reviews

We were a group of 20 across Swallows and Cuckoo's Nest for a 70th birthday. The cottages are warm and cosy, well equipped and comfortable and in a stunning setting for excursions and walks. Lesley and her " crew" went out of their way to ensure we could eat and celebrate together, and the layout lends itself to small groups splitting up to chat watch TV etc. The outdoors areas were beautiful even in crisp February sunshine and would be glorious to sit on summer evenings The leisure centre( it is soooo much more than a games room) was a fab bonus. The rota was a brilliant idea and we all loved the pool and the games. Even bought a piece of the artwork as a souvenir! We love to cook and brought supplies of ale so we didn't need to walk to a pub. has great recommendations for local pubs. Loads of parking and strolls from the door, easy drives to clitheroe settle and skipton to shop( although the cottages accept food deliveries too) and we also headed up to Malham, kirby lonsdale and the viaduct ( via courtyard dairy yum) Something for everyone and such great hosts!

Mrs B,

Fantastic stay at the swallows cottage for my 60th birthday with the family , granchildren loved the swimming pool and games room ,cottage was spotless and spacious, everything there that we needed , we all had an amazing time ,will definitely recommend to family and friends and be returning thank-you .

Mrs S,

Cottage was perfect would definitely Book again

Mr M,

Great location and accommodation for a multi generational family holiday. Swallows was what exactly what we were hoping for and we all had a great stay. Accommodation was clean and spacious and the pool and games room provided some competitive activities

Mrs P,

Everything was excellent and all 10 of us had brilliant time. Pool and games room excellent for kids and pool allocation to each cottage worked well. The only thing we didn't like was the metallic taste of the water!

Mr Andrew L,

Some of the pictures on the website are a bit mis leading , making the property look bigger than it actually is , clever photography I suppose . The cottage itself is lovely and very comfortable . Will consider rebooking for next year

Mr Steve F,

The property was loverly and set in amazing surroundings. The pool and games room were brilliant but the pool needs a bit of upkeep, as does some of the equipment in the games room. This didn’t detract from our enjoyment though and wouldn’t discourage me from rebooking

Mrs Lisa H,

Had a fabulous time at the cottage for my birthday celebrations. Could not fault the upstairs, unfortunately the downstairs was a little tired & needs updating to the standard of upstairs. The swimming pool & games room was used everyday & kept my grandchildren entertained the location was perfect.

Mr Sue C,

It doesn’t specify on booking site that we had to strip beds before leaving and that we were only allocated one toilet roll per bathroom. For 12 people that is ridiculous. It was a surprise to me when I read the instructions that we had to strip the beds and sort the towels etc out for washing and still have to vacate the property fir 9.30. We were not able to have a proper breakfast. A later check out time would be better and an earlier in check in time. There was a faulty kettle and the fridge handle was broken making it difficult to open. A couple of king sized beds would have been better as well.

Mrs Pauline M,

No real reason for the scores
