Pateley Bridge
An array of tea rooms, pubs and independent shops including the must visit Oldest Sweet Shop in England can be found on its steep little high street. You can watch sculptors, glassmakers, metalworkers and other artists at work at the unique Kings Street Workshops and next door is the Nidderdale Museum which captures local social history.  The town sits alongside the beautiful river Nidd which offers gentle strolls along its banks. Pateley Bridge is a great base for those that want to enjoy the many cycling and walking routes which weave across Nidderdale so make sure you come equipped to get out there and really explore.  The surrounding landscape takes some beating, with strange formations at Brimham Rocks, winding walkways at How Stean Gorge and mighty stalagmites and stalactites at Stump Cross Caverns.  Up on the tops is Yorkshire's newest and highest attraction Coldstones Cut, a huge artist's sculpture with magnificent views across Nidderdale.  Families will enjoy the Studfold Farm nature trail or if you want to do something really unusual you can try Llama Trekking with the Nidderdale Llamas.  Of course, good food and drink abound; North Yorkshire's first Michelin starred restaurant, the Yorke Arms, can be found at nearby Ramsgill, there are some great country pubs and plenty of local producers offering smoked products, fruit wines and many other culinary delights.

Reviews

We had a great time at Humbug lodge. Property is comfortable, spacious and well equipped and just a short walk from the centre of Pateley Bridge.

Mr L,

Humbug cottage is in a perfect location, very quiet, but within a five minute walk of Pateley Bridge high Street. The cottage itself has good quality, comfortable, furnishings and has everything you need. We found the maps very useful, particularly the 'walks around Pateley Bridge'. It's definitely a home from home and we would not hesitate to recommend it.

Ms B,

The property is in a central part of town, just off the main street but it is a nice quiet area. It is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. We had a lovely time and can recommend Humbug Lodge as a great base to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.

Mrs K,

We had a lovely stay at Humbug lodge. A complimentary bottle of wine and biscuits were given on arrival which was a lovely gesture. The beds were very comfortable and I would recommend this place. My only disappointment was there was nowhere outside for the dog to run around and the bins left outside had cats rummaging in them. I would recommend an outdoor bin.

Ms P,

We arrived on a wet very windy day after a 6 hour journey and found the lodge to to be warm, light, airy and comfortable. In an excellent location in easy walking distance of all local shops and amenities. There is an abundance of places to see, either on foot or to drive to. The Cathedral city of Ripon and the fascinating Spa town of Harrogate are only twenty minutes away by car and the city of York only forty minutes away.

Mr G,

Lovely spacious cottage, felt very much at home. Everything we needed was provided. Comfortable sofas and bed. Enjoyed the outlook on to the church. Only a couple of minutes walk to the high street, excellent coffee shops and highly recommend both butchers. The Nidderdale museum, just across the road, is superb and not to be missed. Pateley Bridge is a beautiful location.

Mr De C,

Spacious, comfortable cottage. It has a smart tv, lot of books, games and puzzles to keep you occupied on those rainy days. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of essentials provided. These include, coffee, tea, coffee mate, sugar, herbs and spices, gravy granules, salt, pepper, vinegar, cooking oil and dilute juice. Cleaning products, washing up liquid, hand wash and laundry pods are, also provided. Add to that, a welcome pack of wine and chocolates. The only issue we had was the smell of damp but we kept it well aired so it eventually cleared. It's a very quiet area but close enough to the high street, with the oldest sweet shop and an award winning butcher. I've been to pately bridge a few times and it's a great spot to further explore North yorkshire.

Mrs D,

Great accommodation and an excellent base to explore Nidderdale from

Great location and cottage.

Had a nice week at Humbug Lodge, comfortable, relaxing and well equipped. Enjoyed our evening meals at the Crown Hotel and found plenty of interesting things at the museum the small entrance fee was well worth it. Weather could have been better but it didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves. Will stay again

Enjoyed our stay, nice lodge. Tried both the crown and royal oak for evening meals and both were very good.
