Description

Cranscombe Barn is a beautifully renovated barn conversion situated in a quiet location in the Exmoor National Park. Sleeping four people, the character cottage has beamed ceilings, thick walls with deep sill window seats and latched doors which are complemented by modern, contemporary furniture. External stairs lead up to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which has stunning views over the surrounding countryside. This cosy room has a woodburner in the original fireplace, a high apex ceiling with exposed cross beams and a wooden floor. The kitchen area is well laid out and a circular dining table provides a natural divide between the lounge and kitchen. Downstairs, both of the bedrooms are beautifully furnished and share the use of a large, modern bathroom with a bath and separate walk-in shower. Outside, the cottage has a decked area with garden furniture and a rough, sloping grassy area to the side, There are many pathways and bridleways surrounding Cranscombe Barn including a private right of way to open moorland and a footpath leading from the cottage to the riverside pub in Rockford. There are also riverside walks towards Watersmeet and Lynmouth. The village of Brendon, scattered along the East Lyn valley, is just a couple of miles away. A path from Brendon will take you to Lynmouth via the famous beauty spot of Watersmeet,  Some of the country’s most dramatic cliffs can be found nearby and the surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde are within an hour’s drive.

Reviews

Excellent barn conversion, well appointed. Peaceful location.

Mr N,

My wife and I spent 5 nights (Mon-Fri) at this lovely converted barn on Exmoor. We stayed during late November, so we were treated to the beautiful autumnal colours of nature, although at this time of year the temperature does drop off considerably after sundown, however the property does have very good central heating and a fire if you choose to use it (which we didn't). The property is accessed by narrow lanes and the driveway to the main farmhouse, but the property is set up above the farmhouse, so you are not overlooked, although you can see the farmhouse a short distance away from the front of the property. The parking at the front has ample room to manoeuvre your car. (Room for 2/3 cars) Entry is at the rear of the property, which you need to ascend several steps to access (keeps you fit). And as for the property itself, the property is presented to a VERY HIGH standard, with furnishings and equipment top quality. Bathroom well equipped and with lashings of hot water for shower or bath (which is separate). Bedrooms are of good sizes (1double,1twin), suitable for family of four or two couples. Very quiet setting although you may just hear the gentle hum of the fridge/freezer. We ventured out to Taunton (1.1/4hr) good p/and ride, Ilfracombe 50 mins, Exeter (1.1/2hr)p/and ride, good for shopping. And the moor for the adventurous. But back to the property, quite simply put, a lovely, quiet, off the beaten track setting, where you can enjoy a few drinks and food and just chill out, not tied to any time restraints and just relax. Thanks to the owners for the welcome gifts. Much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay which went by far to quick. Highly recommended. X.

Mr S,

The perfect hideaway spot for walkers and nature lovers. I've known this property for over fifty years but this is the first time I have stayed here and it didn't disappoint.

Mr S,

A lovely comfortable rural barn in beautiful Devonshire countryside.

Mrs B,

Beautifully presented 2 storey barn, with all the facilities you could need. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Ms A,

The cottage was idyllic and was beautifully decorated, with everything a family could need. The beds were super comfy and there was a PS4 for the kids which was a bonus. We had a very peaceful week away in a stunning location. However, the only thing I would say is that the cottage is very remote with some steep and winding roads to get to it. I wish I still had my 4 x4 as the roads are bad in places. Also, make sure you take plenty of food with you, as the nearest supermarket is miles away. We had lots of lovely day trips to Croyde, Barnstaple, Lynton & Lynmouth and Ifracombe,

Mrs Claire B,

Such a lovely well kept property in a beautiful setting.

Mrs A,
