Description

Compass Cottage overlooks the village green and has a heritage interior design flair that really will impress. Blues and greys mix with white to create a soft and relaxing charm that is ideal for a cosy long weekend or a fun-filled family holiday. The natural charm of this cottage oozes from every pore and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay one you will never forget. This lovely cottage was refurbished in March 2016.

Sleeps 4, a cosy two up/two down terraced cottage in the heart of Shaldon with a small front patio. 1 bathroom with shower over bath & toilet and traditional steep wooden stairs to the 1st floor. Minutes to beach and local restaurants. Modern and stylish with character and charm. Pet friendly with public parking only.

Ground floor
The living room with its leather sofa and arm chairs is perfect for family get togethers and features the usual flat screen TV & DVD as well as a dining table for four. From here you can wander into a modern kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, Bluetooth radio/speaker. With all of the comforts of home, including the all-important and cafetiere; this really is a sweet and compact space that is ideal for rustling up some holiday comfort food.

First floor
From the steep wooden stairway, you will find a carpeted landing and two bedrooms. The master looks over Shaldon's central bowling green and is furnished in a traditional style with luxury bedding. The smaller, but pretty second bedroom features a bunk bed ideal as the childrens room. Conveniently located on this floor is a compact family bathroom with bath with shower overhead.

Outside
From the moment you see the front of this cottage you will fall in love. The traditional terrace has a delightful front patio fronting the village green. There are table and chairs where you can watch the world go by and just up the road is the local green for picnics and fun with the kids and the very popular London Inn for great food.

Parking
There is unrestricted parking in the road outside the cottage and nearby - if all the spaces around the green are occupied, then your best bet is the little know Commons Old Road (behind Fore St.) or if all else fails, the Ness Car Park (a 12 minute walk away past The Clipper Café). From there you can buy a weekly parking permit for £25 which will also let you park in all Teignbridge car parks in Teignmouth & Dawlish.

Location
Compass Cottage is located in the centre of Shaldon, overlooking village green and only short walk away from shops, cafés and the beach.
Packed with useful shops, a colourful array of popular cafés and a selection of acclaimed local eateries (including the Michelin star Ode Restaurant); the quaint fishing village of Shaldon is home to everything; from fine cuisine to wholesome crab sandwiches! The riverside setting also makes it the perfect base from which to enjoy plenty of scenic dog walks. The passing South West Coastal Path provides a breath-taking range of coastal and countryside walks on the doorstep; with nature trails, bird watching and forest walks accompanying most of the routes. The riverside setting also invites many to take to the water with canoeing, sailing and water sports.

Things to do
A local park and recreation ground, a 18 hole Approach golf course, a charming local conservation zoo, a host of lovely beaches and the Homeyards Botanical Gardens can also be found in Shaldon. In August time, the village also succumbs to the joviality of the annual Shaldon Regatta, so be prepared to get swept up in the merriment!
Shaldon also offers a passenger ferry service from Shaldon Beach to Teignmouth (from where trains operate to Exeter, Plymouth & London).
Visitors are within a 20 minutes' drive of the lively attractions of Torquay, whilst the surrounding area is also awash with beautiful National Trust attractions, beaches, coastal tourist attractions and sport activity centre to enjoy.
Nearby Dartmoor also offers a dynamic day out for walking, mountain biking, wild swimming and extreme sports.

Reviews

Very nice central location to the village, ideal for our out of season week. Shower is restrictive in height for anyone over 6ft. Great village shops, pubs and eateries.

Mr A,

Compass cottage is a lovely little cottage in a beautiful spot. We had a lovely stay. Watching the bowls on the green almost daily. Some great restaurants cafes and pubs close by also near by are the butchers bakers and shop everything you could ask for. Parking could be an isssue as it is very restricted in the actual village. My only complaints about the cottage was a lack of space to hang clothes only wardrobe in the house is locked by the cleaners and the mop was no use so it was difficult to keep clean after rain with dogs and us coming in from the street.

Mr John H,
