Description

With stunning sea and harbour views this top floor apartment is a popular holiday choice. Situated high up in an impressive Edwardian house, Moonrakers is a generous self-contained property just yards from the harbour's edge.  The sandy beach at Readymoney Cove is a few minutes' walk away and it is a 10 minute stroll into the centre of Fowey to visit the many small, independent shops, cafes, inns and restaurants. It's all about the water in Fowey and visitors can take advantage of the many maritime activities on offer such as kayaking, fishing, boat trips and river cruising. There are also numerous scenic walking and cycling routes in the area. The world famous Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are both less than 30 minutes' drive away.

The real draw for Moonrakers is the spacious sitting room and picture window which looks over the harbour to Polruan and out across the sea. Reviews

A beautiful, spacious apartment with spectacular harbour and sea views. We come back year after year. It's well worth all the steps up to the property.

Mrs M,

Very comfortable and warm. Great views and location and a bonus of having your own parking space outside the apartment.

Mrs D,

The property is very dated but generally in good order, and the housekeeper left it immaculate for our arrival, for which we were very grateful. The heating is very effective, so it was cosy warm. Everything worked. The view is nice, and having a parking space essential because this isn't one of those properties where you can just stop outside the door and throw everything in before going somewhere else to park (quite common for Cornish properties due to the type and location of premises). Two huge negatives - firstly, no Wifi and not even listed on the property description, so you can't make an informed decision about whether this property works for you or not, and secondly, the difficult access. The 60 steps are mentioned, as is the walkway, but on a wet week like we had, they were treacherous steps, and don't underestimate them or how difficult it is to unload when you have two heavy suitcases, a smaller one, two bags of food, carriers of Christmas gifts to wrap, several coats, pairs of boots and the bath towels. My husband went up and down those 60 difficult steps - even more so when your hands are full - more than 6 times to unload, and he was so out of breath and his glasses so steamed up by the end, the view was irrelevant! Note: the steps are a mixture of stone, slate, then a daunting double flight of wooden ones, then metal ones across the metal suspended walkway. All very slippy when wet. They don't supply bathroom towels. No idea why this is, when they supply a kitchen towel and tea towels. Very odd, never come across it before and we stay in self catering in Fowey several times a year. All in all, we made do, but we'd never stay in the property again.

Mrs P,

The view is wonderful, the location very good for access to Fowey. A comfortable apartment with everything you need except WiFi, which is unreliable in this location even in properties that have it. Useful to have parking, have to take the road slowly to spot the property. Usual hairy roads to reach this location. Only downside is climbing the steps with your luggage but you wouldn’t have the view otherwise.

Mrs P,

Wonderful, quiet location with amazing views over the estuary. Spacious, well equipped apartment away from the town centre but an easy walk into the centre and to Readymoney Cove. The 66 steps up to the apartment may put some people off but the views make the climb worthwhile!

Mrs S,

This is a lovely, spacious apartment with fabulous views.

Mrs M,

Great location and views, cosy, clean and everything you need for a week's bothole. Parking very handy and good location to explore the area.

Miss M,

A large apartment with stunning views across the Fowey River and out to sea. Situated just above Readymoney Cove, great for walks along the coast and not too far from all the amenities that they attractive town of Fowey has to offer. Well equipped and furnished (but no wifi), this was a very comfortable place to stay. With its own parking the only downside was the climb up several flight of steps and then across a steel walkway to a final flight before reaching the apartment. If you don't mind the climb, a great place to stay.

Mr W,

Location

If you haven't yet discovered Fowey, you've got a treat in store.  Full of multicoloured cottages, perched on the hillsides leading down to the sea, this little fishing town has lots to tempt visitors.

There is an entrancing collection of unique local shops and boutiques, along with harbourside cafes, pubs which will give you a hearty welcome and a good atmosphere, and restaurants offering tempting local produce.  If you want a unique insight into the local species in these waters, you could visit Fowey Aquarium, whose residents include specimens brought in by local fishermen.

If you're a fan of Daphne du Maurier, you may want to visit the Literary Centre, which gives information and exhibits about the author and her life and work.  There is also the Fowey Festival of Words and Music, held in May, in which du Maurier, and many other authors, artists and musicians, are celebrated.  Another great spectacle is the Fowey Royal Regatta, held in August.

Fowey lies within one of the many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Cornwall, and the backdrop of the surrounding countryside, with its tidal creeks, rolling fields and rugged cliffs, will make you want to return here again and again.
