Wighton is a quiet hamlet and a perfect base for exploring the impressive Norfolk coastline, just a couple of miles from the nearby seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea where fun days out can be enjoyed by all the family. Enjoy a spot of crabbing by the harbour and admire the sailing boats where the changing tides display the yachts and vessels amongst the soft sands. Take a stroll to the beach along the harbour footpath or hop aboard the narrow gauge steam railway where you’re rewarded with views of colourful beach huts decorating the sands elevated against a woodland backdrop. You may even spot a seal or two often seen basking at the water’s edge. Pop into the beach café for lunch or French’s for the best fish and chips around - there are plenty of traditional and independent shops too, with fruit and veg shops displaying their wares, plus galleries amongst the pretty lanes. With so many wonderful places to visit nearby why not take a short drive to the current home of the Earl of Leicester; Holkham Hall. Youngsters will enjoy scaling heights of the adventure playground, zipping down the ‘zip’ wire beneath the treetops or perhaps a gentle row on the boating lake. Why not take advantage of on-site bicycle hire at Holkham or in Wighton village at ‘On Yer Bike’ cycle hire close-by and admire Holkham’s red deer herd on two wheels!

Reviews

The house was very spacious and a pleasure to stay in, well equipped and comfortable. My poor rating is more to do with the agent's service. I emailed a couple of times but didn't get a particularly prompt response, e.g. the last time I waited 14 days and had to follow up to prompt a response. I also found it quite difficult to get information from your 'help desk' about the property, e.g. I asked more about the coffee making facilities advertised in the website description, and was told that you didn't know; the person responding had checked the website photos to see what they could find out (as you keep no kitchen itinerary) and they suggested I bring any equipment with me. I brought coffee pods but they were too small for the machine. It's info like this which is really useful and make the difference in enjoying the whole holiday or needing to go out and search in local shops for the appropriate item, eating into the holiday time. We also found the checkin times very late and the checkout time too early, so found value for money quite poor when paying for a night's stay when the checkin time is 4pm - especially when trying to coordinate young children's routine.

Mrs Emma B,

The property was much larger than it looks from the photos and the house was very clean and well equipped. The 'Welcome' Basket of goodies was a nice touch and my children enjoyed the Norfolk cookies! Beware though, the garden is very small with not really anywhere to sit comfortably. Not safe for young children as you can't close the gates if you have 2 cars on the small driveway otherwise you will need to park outside the property on the road. The house is ideally situated and only a 5 minute drive to Wells Next-The-Sea. The local pub, The Carpenter's Arms is a fabulous place to dine and only a 5 minute walk through the pretty village. We thoroughly enjoyed our round of golf at Fakenham Golf Club too - pretty little course, not too taxing and very friendly staff. We also ventured down to Yarmouth for an evening of greyhound racing - a really fun time and restaurant food was excellent.
