Cottages in Fowey

Fowey is a magical port town that has inspired authors, artists and sailors and charmed visitors for years. The Fowey Estuary and surrounding hills provide the perfect backdrop for a one-of-a-kind holiday home, while the river that flows through the town offers a scenic route for local walks. If the Cornish coast, sailing, woodland walks and hearty local food sound right up your street, then take a look at our collection of Fowey holiday cottages, available to book all year round.

Like many of the cottages that line Fowey’s streets, lots of our holiday homes in the area fit this quintessentially Cornish landscape: rustic whitewashed cottages with blue framed windows, sea views and a distinctly nautical feel. But unbeknownst to many, Fowey is also a very stylish place and many of our properties reflect this. A great deal of our luxury cottages in Cornwall are located in Fowey, including a fine selection of modern apartments, some of them penthouse suites, with unrivalled clifftop views of the Estuary. A fair amount of our Fowey cottages are dog-friendly too, which is great news as the area itself is connected to the South West Coast Path and other local walking routes that four-legged friends are bound to love.

The River Fowey and its harbour are the heart of the town. If sailing or angling are passions of yours, then you’ll feel right at home here. There are several local companies offering boat hire and guided cruises down the estuary, so whether you want to take hold of the wheel yourself, or you prefer being chauffeured, you can enjoy the estuary in all its glory. If you want to bring your fishing equipment, Fowey is a great place for catching bass, squid and plaice (if you’re lucky)! You can fish from the railings of Bodinnick car park, which goes down to the estuary river mouth.

Most of the Fowey Estuary is cared for by the National Trust and there are plenty of hidden gems and signposted walking routes for you to discover. One of our favourites has to be Ethy Wood. Twice a day the water creeps up towards Lerryn Creek where the Ethy wood lies, which runs from Lerryn to Ethy Rock. There’s a network of footpaths along the woodland for you to walk along and discover the wood’s ancient trees and multitude of wildlife.

As a coastal town, Fowey also has many beaches nearby – 8 to be exact. Lansallos beach is relatively unknown so is often much quieter than some of the other beaches. Lantic Bay is situated between Polperro and Polruan and is dog-friendly all year round, but can only be accessed by a steep path, so is not the most accessible beach. Par Sands beach is one of the biggest and is a popular for kite flying and kite surfing. Whitehouse beach is closest to Fowey town centre and has a sea water paddling pool adjacent to it (note-there is no beach at high tide). When you’re not busy making memories by the river or sea, be sure to check out all the tasty treats Fowey has to offer. Captain Hank’s Crab and Snack Shack is perfect for al fresco seafood snacks, Pinxto Tapas is the place for a taste of the med, Sam’s Bistro is ideal for date night and there are plenty of chippy’s for a traditional seaside meal.

There is so much to see, do, eat and try in Fowey that it makes for the perfect holiday destination. All that’s left to do is choose your holiday cottage and you’re away!
